Help Gemma Recover From Her Cancer Diagnosis

Dear family and friends of Gemma's,

It is with great sadness that I create this Go Get Funding account and ask for help on behalf of Gemma. She has been diagnosed with cervical cancer, as well as polyps and endometriosis. Living in Indonesia for 25 years, she has the government health insurance, but unfortunately it may not be quick enough for her treatment needed. She needs to have a radical hysterectomy immediately. Her gynocologist has referred her to the one and only oncologyst/obgyn on the island and recommended that she goes private as with her government medical cover, there is a waiting list and they haven't even given her a refferal letter yet, due to a "system error", so this could be a very long time. At first she said this was not an option, she just does not have the money due to lack of work during the pandemic. Me and several of her friends have suggested we start a gofundme to help our dear friend Gemma, so that she can have the surgery sooner rather than later. In fact she has already received donations from two friends privately and is extremely grateful for this, but she needs more help.

She is still reeling from the shock and fear. Not only fear of the cancer itself but fear of losing the income that she does have currently due to the strict cancellation policy of the company she freelances for. Three weeks ago when she was hemorrahging and the hospital wanted to admit her for an emergency biopsy the next day, she very sadly declined. Had she done so. She would have been fired. It sounds almost unbelievable that a company can be so heartless, but it is true and she know's many people who have been fired due to similar emergencies, including myself.

Her Gynecologist has said the operation would cost about 25 million Rupiah. That is about AUD$2500 or 1300GBP. However I believe that may well be just be the cost of the operation and not the stay and all other associated costs. As well as loss of income for possibility of being fired, not only that, but she should definitely be resting during her treatment. We really need to help take some financial burden of her during this scary time for her. This also is assuming that she won't need chemo and radiotherapy... however, this will become clearer when she see's the Oncologist. Five years ago she was told it would cost 5/6 million rupiah for her son Martin to have his tonsils out. That was just the operation and the full cost of this minor surgery was 16million. So we are hoping to raise at very least 50 million, as this is a major surgery and will involve a longer hospital stay and other medical conditions CAD and hypertension may cause additional costs too.
