Help Garfield fight Feline Hepatic Lipidosis

Update posted by Angelos Zochios On Mar 28, 2020

Good evening everyone. Garfield was not very good today. He was very active during the day but after I fed him we became lethargic.

I need to measure his weight because I think he still loses weight. On Monday we have another appointment with the doctor.

We need to give him bigger portions of food.

More news tomorrow.

Thank you for your time and I wish you all good health.

Garfield wish you the best as well.

Today was an easy day. Not so Much to report. Garfield was resting most the day. Sleeping in his warm bed. The only time he went up was to use his toilet and to force feed him.

Small steps were made. He ate some food out of my hand, but the rest was force fed to him. Same with water. The doc was in contact with me and he assured me that we have a long road to recovery but he is responding to treatment very well.

No vomiting, no dizziness. That is all good news. Let's see how he will react tomorrow.

Thank all of you for following my updates. I am sure this will be useful for future treatments for same cases as mine.

Good night and be healthy.

Good evening dear backers. I was a little late with my update today because of Garfield's day care. Today's visit at the doc was a very happy one. We did not need o address IV fluids and Garfield ate a little from the Docs can food. We did get a shot of vitamins and we were send home. No anti vomiting drug was given as well.

The force feeding continued. Today is the test to see if he will eat without the help of anti vomiting drug. It is crucial to his recovery so he would start gaining his appetite with out getting dizzy and vomiting.

He did not eat by himself so I force fed him twice with the new can food I mention yesterday. Now he is asleep and not so active because we did not gave him the usual treatment.

We will monitor how he will react tonight and I will call the doctor in the morning. Until here some cat burrito technics for how to force feed your cat. Bonus images of Garfield's sister Hera.

Step 1: Wrap a towel around your cat.

Step 2: With a syringe insert the food from the side of the cat's jaw

Step 3: Insert the liquid food with little drops until the cat stop chewing

Step 4: Happy fed cat, well not so happy but his belly is full.

Hera is looking for her prey...

She is always by his side giving him support.

Just returned for the vet. Garfield's condition is stable. The force feeding is helping, without the need at the moment to insert him a feeding tube to his stomach. The treatment is going well according to the doctor. So we can avoid the hospitalization for the time being.

New development in his condition is that he started going to his toilet again. A big step to recovery BUT he do not feed himself or drink afterwards, which leaves him in need of food and water. Thats why he needs to be force fed and watered. The doctor advice me to get him a specific food that is good for consumption during his disease. To inform other owners that have the same problem with their pet cats about hepatic lipidosis this is a very good food especially for this case.

Royal Canine Recovery

The treatment continued with IV fluids for hydration, anti vomiting shot and for the first time antibiotics because now he is sensitive to infections to his other organs.

Again thank you all for your support. Garfield is grateful to all of you.

Bonus we have some photos from the vet which Garfield is a very gentle boy accepting the treatment of the doctor.

First I like to give a big thank you to everyone who donated in the cause to save my friend's life. As promised here is my second update to Garfield's recovery. In about half an hour we have our second appointment with the doc. I will take a video at the vet to inform you how it went with more info about his health.

Thank you for your support, it means a lot to me and Garfield.

Okey back from the doctor and we have good news. Things are looking good for the long run and at the moment we can avoid hospitalization but we will visit the vet daily.

Again the treatment was IV, vitamins and anti vomiting drug injected. His colour was better than yesterday which he had Jaundice.

Time to give kudos to the verinarian Elena Karagelli. Amazing doctor and very supportive to the animal and the owner explaining exactly what is the situation with your pet. Very rare in a veterinarian in Greece.

Check his website at www.karagelivet.gr

So here are some photos from the vet.

We returned after our visit in the veterinarian office and we have a first estimate of Garfield's condition. It is clear that has Hepatic Lipidosis. We got him on IV because he was somewhat dehydrated, I tried to give him a lot of water at home. The doctor was positive that we got the sickness early but he had reached Jaundice condition which is the first of the late symptoms of the disease. He had an anti vomiting drug (CERENIA) and inject him with vitamins to fight the anorexia (CATOSAL).

Doctor got his blood sample to analyze and as soon as we got the results I will post an update.

Here are some photos of Garfiled and the medical papers of the Doctor's Diagnosis. We are home now in close quarantine and I will try to make him a meal to eat. Let's hope he starts eating to avoid more problems with his anorexia. Bonus image his sister which she is keep a close eye and supporting him all the way.
