I am raising funds to help me cover costs for tuition and accommodation at Stellenbosch University:
I recently started my honours degree in Economics (equivalent to 4th year of study) at Stellenbsoch University, South Africa. I already hold a Bachelor of Commerce degree specialising in Economics and Finance from the University of Cape Town.
I was working in the financial services industry for the last two years as an analyst, before that I worked in the finance department of an Ed-Tech start-up. Prior to that I interned at a research institute (my role here entailed understanding and quantifying the impact of the South African child support grant on its beneficiaries). I've also participated in various other internships.
I’ve completed Economics courses up to 3rd year level and looking to continue the degree to 4th year (honours level). I am passionate about economics as a subject and the economic development of South Africa. Sponsoring my studies would help me realise my dream of being an Economist and having a positive impact in South Africa through advising and implementing sound economic policies that empower the marginalised.
My passions also lie with developing under-privileged societies and individuals through participation and support of not for profit organisations. In my spare time, I volunteer as a Grade 9 mathematics tutor for an NGO, Fun Learning for Youth (FLY). The organisation aims to provide extra educational support for under privileged students in the townships. Through this I am able to influence positive change in society. In University, I was part of a task force of students that helped raise funds for students who were not able to cover their university tuition. I raised approximately R100, 000 for financial aid students through contacting UCT Alumni for contributions.
I have decided to further my studies in Economics in 2019 because I believe education opens a lot of opportunities and is the key to address South Africa’s challenges.
I would appreciate any contribution towards this campaign.
