Help fund Tanja & Carel’s IVF treatment to start a family

Dear family, friends and to anyone else that might read this,

This has been the most difficult letter that I have ever had to write, a very private struggle now has to become very public in order for our dreams to realise, so please bear with us as we need to start at the beginning…

We got married in 2006 and it was love at first sight, needles to say, we just knew that this love would become stronger and stronger. There comes a time in every relationship where that love needs to be shared with a baby of our own. What should be the most natural thing quickly turned into a nightmare. Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the battle that would lie ahead. Many thought that we should accept out fate, but to be honest, imagine living your life without your children? Would that really be a life worth living? Our home has been blessed with love and laughter and in so many other ways, but still, an emptiness lurks.

We realise the battle is far from over but there will always be hope. As some of our family and nearest and dearest may already know, we had to endure a lot of heartache and pain during an eleven year Infertility struggle.

We are part of the 1 in 6 couples struggling with infertility problems as our home still remains without the child that we have been praying for. After eight failed pregnancies, two ectopic pregnancies, numerous procedures, mountains of medical bills and treatments, our only option to conceive a child of our own is a very costly procedure known as In vitro Fertilization (IVF).

We were very fortunate to find a doctor in Pretoria who could assist us with some of the medical issues that I have been diagnosed with, however, the last ectopic pregnancy claimed my only fallopian tube, leaving IVF to be our only hope. Our doctor advised us on some lifestyle changes to prepare my body for the procedure and optimal health will enhance the success rate of the treatment. We are pulling out all the stops this year, no sacrifice will ever be great enough to keep us from reaching our goal.

IVF will be beneficial in our specific case as the doctors now have the advantage, medically speaking, in choosing the strongest egg to be fertilised and implanted, and increasing our chances of success.

Here comes the hard part. In order for us to undergo the procedure, the IVF needs to be paid upfront and the quoted amount is R78000. We have started to save some money, but with time against us and the fact that a woman’s fertility decreases the older she gets, time is running out.

It is with humble hearts that we need to ask for a donation to support our cause and finally realising our dream of having a little baby of our own.
