Hi! My name is Weng Dee and if you've by any chance been following my life for the last couple of years you'd know that I've somewhat evolved into a tree-hugger.
For my summer break I'll be embarking on a 10-week expedition to rural Sabah together with Raleigh International's Borneo expedition. Raleigh International is a highly credible youth development charity which is endorsed by the United Nations and the Sabah Government, among others. Raleigh hosts many challenging environmental and community projects around the world.
In Sabah, I will be working with Raleigh International to build crucial infrastructure (e.g. repairing bridges, building schools, providing access to clean water/sanitation) that will empower the rural indigenous communities by improving their welfare and quality of life. Many of these communities do not have access to clean water, sanitation and education facilities which are the basic rights to every human being.
Besides contributing to building strong and resilient communities, this expedition will also have an environmental focal point in which I will be assisting experts in the conservation of our precious tropical rainforests and its biodiversity which are under threat.
On top of that, 3 weeks of the expedition will involve hiking across the rainforests of Sabah while aiding in the development of trails as well as leadership qualities.
To help make this a success, ANY contribution, big or small (even if it's just $1!), is welcome and will be tremendously appreciated. Raleigh encourages fundraising for the expedition as it is an important part of this challenge and any funds collected will largely go directly towards supporting Raleigh's activities during the expedition. The 10-week expedition costs RM3000 ($754), however an additional ~RM1750 ($440) will be required for flight tickets, vaccinations and camping equipment.
Your support is one of the main reasons that Raleigh International can continue to hold meaningful projects around the world. Your contribution to fund my Raleigh expedition is even more so important to me as prior to the start of the expedition, I will also be volunteering for 2 weeks with TRACC (Tropical Research and Conservation Centre) in Pom Pom Island which I will largely be funding myself. Learn more about TRACC here.

I DON'T WANT TO WASTE YOUR MONEY.
*GoGetFunding charges 4% of fees, if you wish to avoid this bank in your donation to my Maybank account:

Please e-mail me a screenshot of the receipt.
If you are donating through the site, please also do set up a PayPal account with the details that you have already entered. Using PayPal avoids having to pay extra fees (instead of the usual 4%). Don't worry! it's simple and can be done within the checkout process itself. I have not enabled debit/credit card donations because due to certain Malaysian regulations GoGetFunding would charge 12% fees from each donation.

To complement crowdfunding, I'd also like to encourage you to minimize the plastic that goes into our waste stream. Purchase a bamboo toothbrush for RM10 each. It's 2018, it's time to ditch the unnecessary plastic we use in our daily lives (properly).
Alternatively, I can also upcycle some of your old t-shirts into reusable bags for a certain donation amount! Look up the rewards upon checkout.
Contact me personally if interested in either of these.
