Maria was just informed that there was an accident. Not knowing the extent of her husbands injuries, forces her to travel 600 km to go and see him.

After 6 months in a hospital bed and a further 6 months bound to a wheelchair, Hannes was taught how to walk again.

A miracle made the entire family trust in God even more. God's greatness and mercy were witnessed by doctors and nurses, while Hannes was an in- and out patient at the hospital. The first time was in hospital when doctors wanted to amputate his leg, the prayers of his 6 year old daughter and the nurse on duty saved his leg. The second was the trust and hope in God and a disciplined Pastors' prayer which caused the pins in Hannes' leg to fall out, leaving his treating doctor shocked and in awe.

Maria and Hannes have two children, during Hannes' stay in hospital the youngest stayed with his grandparents, 50km from his dad in hospital, and 300km from his mother and hometown. The eldest child stayed with Maria in their hometown, attended school, and traveled to Hannes every chance they got.

Financially, the family were almost ruined and Maria had to find a job and fast, but one that would understand and accomodate her situation.

Their eldest child grew up thinking that she has been deprived of so much, her parents could not watch her first netball game, her father could not run with them like other fathers did. She lost interest in most things as she would rather spend time with her parents than with friends or anyone else. One of her self assigned chores were to bandage her fathers ankle every night, so her father won't be in so much pain.

Seperation anxiety became part of her life and the consequences of this accident came with emotional scarring for all the family members.

This book is about how this family came through this ordeal and managed to stay a closed knit family for years to come.
