We are part of the 1 in 8 couples struggling with infertility. This has been our journey over the last 4 and a half years:
Morné and I have been in love since Nov 2005. Yup, we are still really very excited to spend time with each other, every day. We got engaged in April 2011 and then tied the knot in April 2012. We soon after, Jan 2013, decided that we wanted to grow our family and we were SO naive.
After a year of trying, we consulted our GP. She prescribed medications which didn't work. We were referred to a Urologist and Morné was diagnosed with low sperm count and quality. In 2015 we were referred to a fertility specialist and after 2 failed IUI's, a Laparoscopy procedure was done on me in 2016. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Endometriosis, which added to the difficulty of our journey.
We were strongly advised to make use of the IVF as we have been trying for 4 years spontaneously and with numerous treatments that failed, our hearts were broken.
I received medication for the remaining of 2016 and we were on an amazing and difficult journey. God has showed us so much more than we could have imagined and we experienced love, joy, support, understanding, grace. So we took a break until end 2016.
Going into 2017 we changed our lifestyles/eating habits, in the hopes that we would be able to have a baby without any other extreme measures.
We prayed and battled with the thought of IVF (especially me), but we went back to the specialist in May 2017 where we informed the Dr that we would like to go ahead with the IVF treatment. SO WE ARE EXCITED, NERVOUS, WE ARE READY!!!
Our dear friends have started a fund raising project of their own in which we already received R19 000. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! We are overwhelmed!!!
The total of the IVF treatment alone is R50 000. This excludes extra tests that I have to undergo before and all other unknown procedures and Dr visits.
We have also saved up ourselves, but already started using the funds and having my own business, I needed to put some away for the quite months. We haven't even started with IVF yet. So instead of going into dept, saving for another couple of months and prolonging the process and adding to our load, I came across this very very unique and helpful way of raising funds. This will hopefully help us to go ahead with the treatment sooner and this way, you get to keep track of our funding progress.
We know that there are so many other causes out there and that every one has their own responsibilities and priorities, but if you feel you can help us by adding relieve to our journey, thank thank you thank you and know that we are GENUINELY grateful!!
God is good and we are so so so thankful and grateful towards everyone who have given as all kinds of support so far!!!
Through out this journey we have learned SO much, we have embraced what we have and realized that no matter what happens, we will be more than okay.
