Help Fund Isay’s Battle with Ovarian Cancer

Update posted by Joelle Lyn Gavica On Jan 18, 2017

Hello everyone! We haven't update in so long because of the holidays but we're happy to share with you that Isay is down to her last cycle of chemo. Her third cycle took longer than expected because the doctor advised to postpone some of her treatment days due to the side-effect she has been experiencing (mostly fatigue and nausea). It proved to be a good decision because she wasn't hospitalized this time for diarrhea and she got to enjoy her birthday and the holiday food spread to the fullest. :D

(Isay on her birthday. She loved the decorations set up for her special day.)

Her fourth cycle won't be until next month since she has to recoup her strength for the last stretch of treatment. Her tumor markers are down to 2 (it was a high 700+ before she started chemo), which is a good sign of recovery. However, her hemoglobin is also very low at this point, and she might need to have a blood transfusion if the iron supplements she's taking do not get her numbers up. Being the upbeat and strong girl that she is, Isay is taking it all in stride.

All of your donations have helped her get to this point and we are so very thankful for your concern, love and generosity. We still have funds to tide her through her last cycle of chemo and this wouldn't be possible without your help.

Please keep her in your thoughts!

It's been a while since we posted an update and we just want you to know that Isay has been taking to the treatment really. Her first five days of chemotherapy went by without a hitch and she rarely experienced side-effects, save for some tiredness, dizziness, and nausea. She did experience a severe case of diarrhea induced by her treatment and had to be confined last Nov. 15-16. She was still all smiles though.

The first cycle of chemo is almost done and Isay just needs to rest for the remainder of the week before the second cycle begins on Nov. 28. As of this update, we've raised a total of Php133,625.06 and spent Php97,262.94 for Isay's treatment. We wouldn't have been able to do this without your help and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. Another good news is that we were able to get aid from PCSO so that will significantly lessen the financial burden for the rest of her chemotherapy.

As is the usual case for cancer patients, hair loss is inevitable, and because Isay didn't want to deal with it, she started sporting a new 'do.

Please continue keeping her in your thoughts! :)

First day of chemo today and this kid is taking it like a champ!

Because of your help, we were able to afford the medicines and hospital procedures for Isay's first cycle of chemotherapy. She'll be administered with chemo meds for 5 consecutive days and will have around 2 weeks of rest before another cycle begins. Isay has been nothing but positive about fighting her sickness and she's been truly grateful and overwhelmed by all your support and love. Thank you so much for always keeping her in your thoughts. :)

We are so overwhelmed with everyone's response to this fundraiser. Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity and support! It was amazing to see all the help and well-wishes pouring in from friends and family all over the world.

At the moment, we have raised Php 88,521.70, which can already pay for Isay's first cycle of chemotherapy. Isay went for pre-chemo lab tests last Saturday, Oct. 21. We'll be purchasing her chemo meds on Nov. 3, and she will start her first cycle on Nov. 7.

A big thank you again to everyone who reached out to us and donated for Isay's fundraiser, and to those who shared the post. We are truly grateful for your help and it means so much to me and my family. It's already a big step to helping Isay beat this disease. Please keep her in your thoughts as she gets ready to start her treatment. :)
