HELP ADDRESS FEMALE POVERTY IN CAMBODIA THROUGH SUPPORTING A VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME AIMED AT THE MOST DISADVANTAGED AND POOR WOMEN
I am seeking funding to enable me to volunteer to work for several months with the women’s empowerment programme in the suburbs of Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh, which seeks to empower women from disadvantaged communities through educational enhancement, health care education, and income initiatives. The programme plays a significant role in increasing local women’s access to education while improving their employment opportunities and quality of life. It is aligned with a number of UN Sustainable Development Goals, with Goal #5 – Gender Equality being the main objective.
Women’s empowerment programmes aim to increase gender equality in the community through various activities such as English lessons, health or life skills classes. The local partner is the Phnom Srey Organisation for Development, whose goal is to contribute social development through initiatives to empower and educate women and young people. In the long term, the programme aims to equip these women with the necessary and sustainable skills and tools to help eradicate poverty and increase education levels.
I am passionate about empowering women from disadvantaged communities through educational enhancement, health care education, and income initiatives. While working in collaboration with the local community I will gain valuable skills to develop myself personally and professionally and improve my own future job prospects. I will gain hands-on practical skills while making a difference, immersing myself in the local language and culture, and contribute towards my future career which I hope will be in women’s empowerment.
I am planning a 12 week trip to Cambodia in September 2021.
The initial cost of the programme I want to go on is as follows:
1. Accommodation and living expenses: £2,500
2. Malaria medicines: £227
3. ILM leadership cost: £200 (Amanda: you have to explain what this is)
4. Estimated flight costs (round trip): £1,300
I intend to pay as much as I can towards these costs but any donation, however small, would be very gratefully received! More details can be found here: https://www.gvi.co.uk/programs/womens-empowerment-...
