Dear reader,
Before anything else, I want to thank everyone for taking the time to stop by. My name is Janika, a licensed Psychometrician in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. I aim to study Couple's & Family Therapy or Child Psychology for my master's degree.
I come from a family of 6. I am the eldest of the 4 children. My parents are extremely hard working and I am grateful to have them support me everyday to reach my dreams. My sister is currently still a freshman in university. My other siblings have not yet finished high school and I am currently working to make ends meet. I cannot rely on my family for financial aid anymore even if they offered. I care about my siblings and their future too. Their needs grow as they age as well. My father is an engineer and works tirelessly away from us every year and I know how hard it is to keep this up as the years go by. My mother's business hasn't been doing very well as of late either. I do want to take a load off their shoulders even just a little bit. It's hard to see them worry about the future when they should be taking it easy at this age.
It has been a long term dream of mine to become a family therapist or child psychologist but unfortunately none of these specific courses are offered in any of the universities in my country. There are very few people in the field with a background specifically catered to family and child therapy at the moment in my country as well. This also makes me more eager and gives me more reason to pursue/focus on these for my master's. I'm very passionate about helping people which is why I took up a helping profession in college but the bachelor's degree did not exactly meet my expectations in regards to service to others. I was hoping I could reach out a little more to people with further studies.
I think the well being of the family is very important in shaping society into what it is and the experiences people face in the early stages of life are most crucial in terms of the development of each individual. I want to contribute to society in little ways, especially in research and social work. We have barely scratched the surface in the field of psychology, relying on theories and concepts, and I noticed branches in relation to personal and individual growth and self care tend to be overlooked yet so many individuals try to seek for aid.
Even with the best intent, dreams can be expensive. Censorship aside, the tuition for this degree is generally 28,000$ per year in Canada or the US as an international student. This excludes living expenses and other fees but I will only be raising part of the amount to help me settle in as I will be funding the rest with my personal income. The master's degree will span 2 years.
I will be applying for about 8 universities this year for admissions to SY2020, this includes processing my student and work visas once my application has been accepted. I usually do not ask for donations but I understand time is precious and am hoping I am able to achieve more in a shorter period of time. It is difficult to meet the costs based on our local wages in the Philippines. It may be a little far-fetched based on the amount I need to raise but every single donation, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and will be rewarded with academic excellence and hard work during the entire duration of my studies. In turn, you will be helping the community by a long shot. Help me make a difference as we touch people's lives.
Thank you for being a part of my journey! :)
Sending my best regards,
