Hello, Loved ones!
My name is Freya Whitesman and I am a second-year student majoring in medical engineering at Liverpool John Moores University. I use my computer for everything: note-taking, research in my Antibiotic activity lab, coding, writing essays, and most recently, watching all of my lectures because of the pandemic.
Taking on all of these projects will require me to have not only a good but great laptop. The laptop I'm currently using is a 9-year-old dell dual-core laptop that takes good 20 minutes to boot. I was originally saving up to buy myself a new laptop for studies, but given COVID-19 I lost my part time job and all the saved money went to pay rent for my room. Now I am in need of a laptop more because the pandemic forced LJMU and many other universities around the world to switch to remote learning.
I will post pictures of my old laptop here. As you can see It's not already outdated, it's broken down due to wear and tear. The screen barely functions and the laptop battery is not even holding for 30 minutes. The opening hinge is already broken. It takes so much time even to load a single chrome tab.
This new laptop will last me not only for the rest of my undergraduate years but through my graduate career and all of my present and future research and work endeavors. Many of the medical, molecular, genomic, and ecological challenges facing us today will only be solved by combining the modeling of basic and biological processes with computational methods for discerning patterns in Bioinformatics. These computational modeling require lots of power in a computer(matlab, simulink etc). These monumental projects are designed to understand the processes and illnesses of the brain, to identify the influence of genetics on the disease, to develop better drugs for treating disease. I don't want my old laptop slowing me down in helping to eradicate potential future iterations or mutations of Coronavirus. I am sensitive to the fact that this is a tough time economically for our country, but whatever you can donate is greatly appreciated.
I love you all dearly,
