Hello everyone! So here is the breakdown of whats going on. My name is Doug Miller, and my wife and I are trying to raise money for her Grandparents. Last week her grandfather was taken by ambulance to the hospital with stroke like symptoms. His daughter Tammie Hayes quickly called 911 and rushed to the hospital to check on his condition. She requested he be transfered to another facility. In Big Bear California the hospital is not really suited for treating stroke patients. Tammy promptly requested a transfer to a higher quality facility, better suited to help with patients showing stroke. The hospital delayed saying that he was not showing signs to prompt a transfer. Needless to say the signs were obvious, even to the nursing staff at the hospital that his condition was on the decline. His face started to droop on the lefthand side and he complained of numbness in his face. Finally, the hospital decided to give him the transfer, a day and a half after being admitted. Stroke victoms have a very short period of time before the damage can become perminate. By the time he got down to a better quality hospital and had an MRI, the doctors confirmed it was indeed a stroke.  A little bit of background on Frank Hayes, He is his wife, Sue Hayes in-home care provider. She suffered a stroke several years ago and lost her mobility. We have been helping take care of her while her husband is in the hospital with everything we can, from meals to good company.  With Franks stroke he is now in a rehabilitation facility to help him regain and cope with the dammage that the stroke caused. His vision, equalibrium, and basic motor skills have been compromised making it impossible for him to work and help take care of Sue.  To make matters more complicated, we have until May 30th to come up with 25,000 to help save their home. San Bernardino County is forcing a tax lein forclousre which will go happen unless the property taxes are paid.  So here is the goal!  We are trying to raise money to save their home, as well has help cover the cost of there medical bills. Other things that it will go towards will include getting his truck repaired so we can help transport them around and keeping utilities turned on.  Frank is one of the stronges people I know. He has an amazing sense of humor, and lived a very active lifestyle until this happened. He loved to go off-roading,volunteer with the U.S Forestry Service, spend time with his grandkids and great grandkids. (my daughters) and work on his jeep. Hopefully with his rehabilitation he will be able to not only help take care of his loving wife, but be able to do what he loves again. From Blazing the trails in his jeep, to spending time with the rest of his family.  Any donation is a huge help. And if you have read this far, Thank you for taking the time. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers. (good vibes welcome too)    Sincerly, Douglas Miller, Kayla Hayes, and Tammie Hayes.

  • Pops, May 3, 9 days post stroke update: Pops had a rough night with nausea, vomitting and the roller coaster wave that flows through his head as a residual impact of the stroke wiping out his equilibrium. In the midst however of his weakened and exhausted state, he did say, "but on the bright side, atleast I can pee again" (for those who missed that healing milestone, you can read my post from yesterday) So while today may began as a queezy and challenging day, he is looking forward, with a positive mindset. Pops is scheduled to see the opthamologist on Monday *(he still has double vision, misalligned vision and depth perception challenges as a result of his optic nerve being impaired by the stroke; and it is unknown whether his brain will correct or compensate for these challenges; it is also unknown at this time if the opthamologist will be able to help, but we are optomistic believers and with the faith of a mustard seed, mountains can be moved)*. We are also waiting to recieve the appointment date for the endocrynologist, as well a follow up appointment with the neurologist. It is unknown, at this time, how long pops will be staying in care for physical/occupational therapies etc.. As his daughter and health care agent/advocate, I have been at his side daily, oncall round the clock as needed and I am 'fighting the good fight' to make sure pops is getting the care and support he needs. Should anyone who knows pops want to visit him or if any one has to go to Hesperia/Victorville (for whatever reason) and would be open to having a carpool passenger; please message me, as I would certainly appreciate creating carpool opportunities. As a family, we are thankful to each and every one of you, that has shared love, prayers and support, during these challenging time. With kindness and appreciation. Tammie 'Rain' Hayes

Update May 2, 2014

Update posted by DougMiller33 at 12:33 pm

Update from Tammie Hayes on Franks condition this morning.  Pops called me about 6:30 am (Friday May 2) and I could hear that he was choked up and teary eyed. He said, thank you; and then went on to tell me that he slept comfortable most of the night but. . . . .
