25 children enrolled at 3 centers in an urban slum in khoda Ghaziabad, Siwan Bihar and in Chapra Bihar, which is a rural township. The children coming to the centers are from migrant laborer families, Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, schedule castes, and families whose total income is between Rs. 3,000-5,000. Not surprising then that these children are out-of-school, drop outs, or working. Only half of them are able to pay school fees.

Each centre is manned by 1 principal and 5 volunteer teachers and an ayah. It is a rented place in the midst of an urban slum. A center runs Mondays to Saturdays from 8 am and 2 pm and teaches students from class 1 to 5. After that, Empowering Minds helps get the children enrolled them in other schools (Government or Private) and they monitor the same. This donation will be used to provide books and stationary to all children and uniforms.

Description of the programme:

The organization runs a school for the out of school/dropouts children of migrants in an urban slum in khoda colony Ghaziabad, Siwan Bihar and Chara Bihar. The parents of the children come from a very poor background like labour class, petty shop vendors, rickshaw pullers, auto drivers etc. They do not have a steady income and there are more mouths to feed than the earning. They are not aware of the importance of education and do not send their children to school.

The school is situated in the same locality where these children come from.

Description of the beneficiary Profile of beneficiary, how are beneficiaries identified/retained:

The beneficiaries of this project are children from the nearby areas who are out of school, dropouts and whose parents are migrants. The beneficiaries come from the destitute families whose earnings are Rs 3000-5000 per month and usually are families of rickshaw pullers, petty shop owners, and other daily wage earners.

The school is situated at the khoda Ghaziabad, Siwan Bihar, and Chapra Bihar slum and is manned by 1 Principal and 5 teachers and an ayah.

The beneficiaries are identified through surveys done in the community and also recommended by other beneficiaries. Their background is checked by the outreach workers which include their family details, BPL status, and other documents. These beneficiaries mostly come from the migrant and minority communities.

Description of the implementation of the programme How do you implement the programme/project? How resources are (material and human) are obtained, and how the benefit is provided):

There are around 125 children coming to school. The program is implemented with the help of a principal, 5 teachers, and an ayah on each center. The school runs both formal and non-formal classes and has different classrooms from Nursery to class V, a primary school. It has a computer room and a library.

A curriculum is followed and children are also involved in co-curricular activities. After the child passes out from the school, they are admitted to the nearby Govt. school. They are also provided school supplies or as per their need and regular follow ups done to see that the child continues to study.

Describe how you collect beneficiary details and track or monitor benefit provided:

The beneficiaries’ details are collected in a number of ways. At the time of admission, there are admission forms that the beneficiary has to fill up along with a copy of identification like Aadhar card or parents BPL card etc. Then their daily attendance is marked in the attendance registers. These details are then entered in the computers to track the beneficiaries. The instructors also maintain their dairies which have their details.

Describe the indicators or data collected to track the progress of the Project No of Beneficiaries enrolled in the school No. of beneficiaries completed the school:
