Help for Sergiusz

Hello!

We are turning to you with a request for help and assistance in raising funds for the treatment, rehabilitation and healthcare for our 13 year old son Sergiusz. Sergiusz is a cheerful, positive child, who has a passion for football. Unfortunately, Sergiusz was born with the genetic bone growth disorder achondroplasia, which causes dwarfism.

In Sergiusz’ case, this means he would have to heavily depend on other people throughout all of his life. Now that Sergiusz is growing up, he sees other children around him, and dreams of becoming independent, just like them. Even though he is only 13 years old, Sergiusz has always been very determined to fight to improve his situation, and is prepared to give all he has to achieve this. He does this while maintaining his always cheerful attitude and with a smile on his face, no matter how hard it gets. To make his dream come true, we as parents have decided to start the treatment method “Ilizarowa” for him.

The treatment with this method consists of multiple phases, including the surgeon extending both chins, both thighs, and both hands. Unfortunately, this method is characterized by a lengthy duration. Currently, Sergiusz has just successfully gone through the first operation, where the surgeon extended both shins. This has resulted in a great 8 cm increase in length. However, Sergiusz cannot walk yet; on the 6th February the metal pins in his chins will be taken out, after which the first rehabilitation will start, with as purpose re-learning how to walk. Sergiusz also remains under the care of a neurologist, an orthopedist, a psychologist, a speech therapist and an ENT specialist.

Even though it has been painful and difficult so far, Sergiusz stays very optimistic and motivated to continue his treatment. After he will finish this first rehabilition, Sergiusz wants to immediately continue the next stages on his way towards an independent and healthy life, which include extending his thighs and his hands. Sergiusz wants to continue his treatment as soon as possible, because he knows the surgeries and treatment will give the best results when he is still young.

The surgery and rehabilitation for each of the extensions will cost roughly 30.000 euro. We are hereby asking for your help to make the dream of our beautiful boy Sergiusz come true, by supporting Sergiusz by donating towards the 30.000 euro for the next stage of his treatment.
