Campaign Story
Back in May 2014 my dad Paul Mahon fell down the stairs and seriously injured his spinal cord, he suffered a C2 spinal cord fracture and as a result is a quadraplegic and on a ventilator. He has been amazing given his injuries and prognosis. My dad is being cared for at the spinal injuries unit in sheffield and we are hoping he will be able to come home soon. During his stay in hospital my dad has struggled to get the right equiptment to help him be more independant.
I have decided to rasie money to help him get the right assistive technology when he gets home. This will help him to feel less cut off from the outside world and have the independance he had before the accident. All the money raised from this challenge will be split between my dad and Back Up charity.
Back Up support mentoring, wheelchair skills training and activity courses as well as support injured people back to work or school. They provide peer led tailored support to help people adjust to a spinal cord injury and inspire independence and confidence for a positive future.
£25 allows one spinal cord injured person to attend a wheelchair skills session
£250 can help train a volunteer mentor to support others with spinal cord injury
£50 can help pay for someone to attend our Back Up to Work course
My challenge
I am aiming to complete a 100 mile challenge starting with the Sheffield Half Marathon. I will complete a total of 8 half marathon distances between 12 April and 14 June, with the final half Marathon in my dad's home city Liverpool.
