Campaign Story
My brother Young is a cancer survivor way back 2013. Unfortunately this February 2021, the disease hit him again. February 4, he had a stomach ache, experienced chills and fever. The next day after drinking medicines he got ok. Then here comes February 6, early morning, there's a blood in his spit. We went to Amang Rodriguez Hospital ER but he was not admitted due to lack of room available in the hospital and a high risk to get infected by Covid. He was given a Tranexamic acid to help stop the bleeding. We were advised to get several lab test. The next day we went to hospital ER again since he's not feeling well but explained to us again the situation of the hospital and not admitted again. After 2 days of waiting, we got the lab results and found out that his platelet is 98 only (normal is 150-350), we forwarded it to 2 doctors, an online IM Consultation as we cannot see a face to face doctor since he was not tested for swab yet. We went to East Ave Medical Center ER. They can acommodate Young but will be put in a room along with suspected covid patients regardless if the platelets were low so we just went home.
The IM-Hematologist doctor said to go to other diagnostic laboratory and have his CBC checked again and requesting for a blood smear. The following day, when the result went out, the platelet count dropped from 98 to 46. We forwarded again the result to the doctor and after checking the blood smear and lab results, she called us and advised to go to emergency. February 11, we arrived at 9pm to NKTI Hospital, and due to new normal ways and procedure of Covid situation, after 20 long hours he was finally admitted in the hospital on the day of his birthday Feb. 12 at 5pm.
He's diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia, high risk, in relapse. Plenty of medications/antibiotics needed and everyday blood tests and extractions. Recommended for immediate chemotheraphy, blood transfusion and supportive antibiotic treatment as necessary. We are in a bit of unfortunate situation and unable to cover all the costs for the medication, chemotheraphy, hospital bills and the doctor's fee.
Any fund donated will be very much appreciated and can greatly help us. Please help me share this post. Thank you very much.
