My cousin, Swarnima Khatri, is a 21 year old who studies Sociology in Kathmandu, Nepal. She is hoping to attend the Climate Reality training program, which is a non-profit organization focused on climate change education and countering climate change denial campaigns worldwide. The organization was established following the consolidation of two environmental organizations, the Alliance for Climate Protection and The Climate Project, which were both founded in 2006 by former Vice President Al Gore. The program trains youth from all across the globe to continually reduce carbon emissions and expand renewable energy in the years that follow. The program is a three-day training program with Chairman and Founder, former US Vice President Al Gore on September 28-30 in Miami, Florida. During the training, you will learn about the latest climate change science, connecting with your audience, communication strategies, and approaches to community outreach and organizing.Swarnima says, her purpose for wanting to attend the training program is to spread the message about the urgency of the climate crisis especially in rural part of Nepal where technology is unknown. She wants to attend schools and colleges in rural districts of Nepal and organize climate change awareness programs for the youths. She says, “Changes cannot be achieved singularly. We are in a global crisis, and it is our duty to take care of the planet we live in. The changing climate can have severe effect on the future generation, and we are there only hope. It is now or never, we must become aware of the global climate change and spread the message all across the world. However, coming from a third world developing country, I want to bring to your notice that one U.S. dollar is worth one hundred rupees in Nepal. Though I have helped other victims with all my power and possibilities via fundraising and I have no strong financial support for myself. Nepal is amongst the poorest countries in the world with per annual income less than $500. It's seems next to impossible for me to afford the travel expense and accommodation especially in Florida which is a tourist place and costly. I hope you will support me to accomplish my goal”. Swarnima has been an active volunteer during one of Nepal’s biggest earthquake in April. The earthquake injured and killed many citizens. Swarnima and her family members collected more than 25,000$ donation, donated good clothes, helped build temporary houses and reconstructed the school to those who lost everything in the earthquake. I hope you will support her cause too, every little donation counts. Thankyou very much.
