Muhammad Amsyar aged of 8 months is suffering a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants called Biliary Atresia.

“When a baby has Biliary Atresia, bile flow from the liver to the gallbladder is blocked. This causes the bile to be trapped inside the liver, quickly causing damage and scarring of the liver cells (cirrhosis), and eventually liver failure.”

Baby Amsyar had gone through a Kasai procedure at his age of 40 days. During this surgery, the surgeon removes any problem bile ducts outside the liver. The small intestine is then attached to the liver. This provides a path that can allow bile to drain from the liver. Unfortunately, the surgery was not successful and Baby Amsyar still not 100% cure.

Baby Amsyar has to suffer the complications of jaundice and itching every day due from this disease – Biliary Atresia. The pain that he feels made him cries frequently and difficult to sleep during day even night.

His doctor from PPUM advised that Baby Amsyar should go through a liver transplant before it’s too late. A liver transplant operation removes the damaged liver and replaces it with a new liver from a donor which is from his mother or father. However, this surgery only can be done at Shanghai, China. Malaysia has stopped this kind of surgery for this disease due to unknown reason. The overall cost (including flights, stays, medical surgery etc.) for the liver transplant procedure at China is MYR350,000 or equivalent to plus minus USD81,600.

Knowing of this expensive cost makes Baby Amsyar’s mom on a dead end. She is a single mother with four children. She left her job because nobody fully able to look after her Baby Amsyar. She is facing tight financial issues to cope with the situation.

Baby Amsyar’s mom is just like me. She's like all of us. She’s kind, compassionate and a wonderful person dedicated to her baby. This horrible thing happened to good people. As a mother myself, I can imagine experiencing the range of feelings Baby Amsyar’s mom is experiencing, with the most significant being the loss of hopes and dreams for my child's future and the devastation of knowing he will likely be not 100% recover at all.

If you can donate any amount to help Baby Amsyar to undergo the transplant, so that he can recover and be healthy like other baby; it would be greatly appreciated. From our family to yours thank you for all your prayers and support during this tragic event.
