Help for a Helper

Hi, my name is Claire and I just want to thank you for reading. I have set up this fundraiser for my best friend. Her name is Shaz, she is 28 years old and is married with a 2 year old son. She has always been the one that everyone turns to. Whether it's a shoulder to cry on or advice, she has always been there for anybody who needed her.

She has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Not much is known about the condition, to the point that most sufferers have to educate their own Doctors.  Here's what I know about the condition. It is slowly but surely taking my best friend's mobility away from her. The condition causes her a lot of pain in her joints and her joints dislocate daily. She used to be extremely active, always popping off to somewhere! Now, she can barely walk to the end of her street without being in pain. Every morning, it takes her anywhere between 30 - 45 mins just to get out of bed due to pain and her joints dislocating whilst she sleeps. She has recently taken a downward turn due to not receiving physiotherapy soon enough.

She has a full time job that she adores. She works in Customer Service which is completely appropriate as she loves helping people. Recently, she has been unable to work due to this horrible condition and has had to try and survive on Statutory Sick Pay.

This is why I started this fundraiser. I want to try and raise funds to purchase some braces to help her joints stay in place, some specialist crutches and physio to help her become more mobile and independent. It's truly awful to see your best friend lose her mobility as such a young age and I want to try and help give her a little of her freedom back.
