Campaign Story
Hello everyone
I was watching TV the other day, and an advert came on about malaria, and the amount of lives it impacts in Africa. I was about to turn off the TV, and then I saw the pictures of the small children suffering, and it broke my heart as I thought of my own children.
I did a bit of research on the web and found out that a simple yet effective way to help prevent malaria is with malaria nets.
Malaria is transmitted by certain mosquitoes when they bite. These mosquitoes bite people to get a blood meal. The malaria parasite then passes from the infected mosquito to the person being bitten. They typically bite between 10 o'clock at night and two in the morning . The nets cost only approx.. €2, and will help save many people, especially young children .
After seeing the pictures on TV, I felt I had to try and do something, rather than just changing the channel and getting on with my comfortable life.
I am trying this for the first time, but I am hoping to raise a small bit of money first, and then donate all of the proceeds to the various charities that help such causes, (such as www.againstmalaria.com or www.nothingbutnets.com). I know it is not a cure, but it just a simple way of at least preventing someone some pain in their life.
Many Thanks
Gary

Simple yet affective cause. Well done for thinking of this as we tend to forget about problems like this as we live in a cooler climate.
