What is the situation?
So many hardworking Filipinos are greatly affected by this global pandemic especially because of the current lock down - closed businesses, suspended classes and restricted movements/travel including food producers (farmers, fishermen) and distributors (truck drivers, market vendors). Department of Labor and Employment estimates up to 10 million more will lose their jobs this year and millions of them are part of the informal workforce including mass transportation drivers, house helpers, farmers, fishermen, market vendors, cafeteria cooks and contractual workers like road sweepers. Majority of these workers are sole providers for their families which most likely includes kids and elderly.
The Philippine government is doing their best to help by providing cash assistance good for 1 month but they admit this is limited capacity (17M received out of the 50M workforce population). Even the armed forces are helping out with their mobile kitchens. Private sectors are also doing what they can where they can with food aid. This is not my first community outreach but this is the first time I will use a crowdfunding site for support.
How can I help?
With your donation, we can help feed up to 100 families by providing them food to last through a month. We will prioritize those families with kids or elderly. We will be providing them with rice, canned goods, eggs, vegetables, fruits, milk and other food products. Essential health items like alcohol and face masks.
No amount is too great or too small and will never quantify how kind you are. Even the mere thought of wanting to give or help is already too kind for us.
This program is not time limited but what we can do is. We have to follow the lock down guidelines so to protect ourselves and I can only get a few people to help me buy and pack. This is why we have opted for long term food aid instead of meals because of the time and manpower it takes to cook and distribute. This time, we will use boxes for the food aid to make it easier to carry and distribute. We will only deliver it in small groups to avoid being rushed at (yes, it can get crazy at times). We will also be coordinating with local officials to help with security and order during distribution.
The earlier we complete this goal, the more families we can help by starting another program for another set of 100 families.
We are also considering what we can do to help the kids cope with the lock down and suspended classes but for now, helping to fight hunger is our priority.
