Help people whose only income is derived from collecting and selling recyclable material from the local garbage dump.
My father worked for the garbage system in Esteli 25 years ago providing a very modest living for our family of four brothers and two sisters. Because of my mother and father, and in spite of our poverty, my brothers, sisters, and I all studied and became responsible adults. My father gave me the opportunity to study and to have a better future and now I want to give the same opportunity to others. Now I teach Spanish as a second language in Esteli
Some years ago, as a tribute to my father and his beliefs, my wife and I started preparing food for the poor people who work in the dump in Esteli. We have come to know these people and their families well. It is difficult to see them struggle so hard to survive, but also gratifying to see their friendship for each other and love for their children.
In the Esteli dump every day many families look for plastic bottles, metal and other valuable material to sell. They can barely survive on the money they receive. The meals that we provide are not only nourishment , but an exciting event for them. When we arrive they all gather around with smiling faces. They all get to wash their hands and have a tasty home cooked meal.
Our first goal is to provide a nourishing meal more often than we now can afford to. With your donations we hope to deliver enough meals to feed everyone once a week. While the food is so very helpful just demonstrating that someone cares is also very important.
Our second goal (a new goal this year) is to start an English course for the 15 kids who work in the dump. We are sure that we can help them to change their future.
Our long range goal is to buy a used vehicle. We now have to rent a vehicle to transport the meals to the dump. Although the dump is located only nine kilometers from Esteli, the roads are extremely difficult to travel and a vehicle is essential.
You can make a world of difference for someone in need. Change the lives of our kids and share our campaign.
Thanks in advance.
