Our story all started in 2018, when our church started organizing youth programs to provide guidance to teens and young adults of our parish. We were there to recruit and train volunteers, and teach them more about the scripture.
It was when I was first introduced to some of the orphans. As I interacted more and more with them, I realized they were having trouble at the orphanage. They told me about the mistreatment their care taker put them through. Sometimes they would go 2 days without food, and when they got some food, it was one meal a day. The care taker used to also beat the children and remind them of how they are orphans daily.
Unfortunately she passed on and the orphans were abandoned once more. It's when I decided to take on the task of becoming their care taker. We still have some challenges at the orphanage.
One of our biggest challenges is rent because we don't have our own premises. Sometimes we fall short on the rent and the landlord always threatens us to vacate the premises.
Another challenge is educating the children. We are yet to get sponsors for all of them which breaks my heart. Because with an education they would have a better future.
Lastly food is still a great challenge. We do our best to cut down the rations so the the food can last for sometime. But this is affecting the health of especially the younger orphans which means our medical bills have to go up.
The 3300$ will not only feed the 32 orphans under our care for 3 months, but will also cater for other basic needs for the children. This is how the money will be spent each month.
