Help Us Feed 200 Underprivileged Children

There are currently 795 million people hungry people on earth. India itself is home to the largest under-nourished and hungry population, with 195 million people going hungry every day. 30.7% of children under 5 are underweight. 38.7% of children under 5 years of age are stunted. 1 in 4 children is malnourished. 3,000 children in India die every day from poor diet related illness.

Of all the causes in the world, helping underprivileged kids in every way possible has always been the closest to my heart. Its said Food, Shelter and Clothing are the essentials every person needs, but millions of kids don't even have access to the very basic first of those essentials.

My friend Shivank Srivastava, who runs a restaurant business , in Lucknow, has pledged to provide healthy and nutritious food of same quality as served in the restaurant for 200 kids every day for 6 months at a cost of Rs 25 or 40 cents per meal. Each meal will consist of 2 Chapatis, Dry Vegetable Sabji, Rice, and Dal (Pulses).

I am starting this initiative with a few of my friends and Mr. Srivastava, where Mr Srivastava will prepare and provide food for 200 underprivileged kids in Lucknow in nearby areas of Aliganj and Madiaon; and I, alongside my friends will be taking the time every evening to handle the logistics of delivering the food to these kids and serving them a healthy meal for dinner. Everyday during the distributions, these kids will be encouraged to attend schools and will be requested to bring their notebooks during drives to show if they did; and they will be provided assistance in homeworks and learning if they so desire. Every weekend before the distribution starts, a definitive amount of time will be spent with these kids to help them learn some basic fundamentals of English, Hindi and Maths; also they will taught about importance of hygiene, cleanliness, and other moral topics to help them learn at a young age. These meals will not only feed their bellies but also act as an incentive for them to learn and grow. Towards the same effort we will also be helping these kids with basic stationery items such as notebooks, pencils, sharpeners and rubbers.

Total no. of kids to be served: 200

Cost per meal: Rs 25 or 40 cents

Duration of initiative: 6 months

Total cost for meals = 200 children * Rs 25 * 180 days = Rs 9 Lac

Cost of Logistics (Packaging, Transportation and Distribution) = 6 months * Rs 12000 approx per month = Rs 72000 ~ $1120

Cost for Stationary = Rs 28000 ~ $450

Total Goal = Rs 10L ~ $15000

A contribution of just Rs 750 or just $11 can help feed a child for month. With a contribution of Rs 4500 or $75 you can help ensure a meal for a kid every day for 6 months. These numbers just go to show how no contribution is small and that every donation, no matter the amount, matters. I urge every individual to come forward and help us in this cause so that we can help these kids with a proper meal and help them learn and grow. Every contribution, big or small, will make huge differences in changing life of these kids for the better. With even a small support from everyone, I believe we can achieve our Goal in no time.
