After many years, Everett has finally decided to go back to school.  He has been living on disability since 2005 and needs help to cover the cost of his tuition. He is hoping to eventually get his Master's Degree in Theology/Divinity to become a Pastoral Counselor.  Over the past few years, Everett has been inspired by the writings of Nadia Bolz-Weber (check out her book "Pastrix") and the Progressive Christian movement.  Both are trying to re-orient christianity back to teachings of Christ and away from religious dogma.  In Everett's own words: "For me, Progressive Christianity means working with individuals and groups who are at risk, on the margins and disenfranchised by society.  If Christ walked amoung us today - where would we find him?  I think working with the homeless, at risk youth, people struggling with substance abuse, etc.  I hope to become a part of this movement."In the past, Everett has worked for The Asia Foundation doing development work in many countries in Asia.  He has also worked as an advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS both in California and Oregon, helping individuals gain access to services and teaching leadership and advocacy skills.  Everett has also devoted time working with at risk populations as a workshop facilitator for Write Around Portland.  It comes as no surprise to those of us who know and love him that he has decided to take this next step in his life.We hope you can help us, help Everett fulfill his dream of going back to school.
