Ethan has been selected to represent South Africa at the FINA Junior World Swimming Championships to be held in Budapest on 20 - 25 August 2019. This is an opportunity that any young athlete dreams of and we would like to help him fulfill this dream. He started this journey at age 9 and, at 16 years of age, this is hopefully the first step onto something bigger - he surely has worked very hard for this.

Any donation will be much appreciated, the swimmers/parents have to fund this tour themselves.

In the banner above you will see a video of Ethan swimming the 200 Free at Nationals - he is in lane 4.

You will also see some photos of him by scrolling left or right on the banner and we have added a photo of the Duna Arena in Budapest.

At 18 months of age, during the winter, Ethan decided to help us clean the pool and promptly fell in. He was right next to me so I went in to get him and all was well. He did however always resist any water near his head and face after that incident, for quite a long time. At age 3 we decided we should help him get over his fear of water and enrolled him for Learn to Swim classes. He eventually stopped resisting and took to the water like a fish.

His first swim training coach did a quick assessment and started training him at age 9. Within 9 months we entered him in the Prestige gala in Durban. He got a big fright because it was the first time he had ever seen a 50m pool, having trained in 25m pool only. He won 2 Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze in the 10 yr age group(he was still 9)

In total, he has won more than 230 Gold medals since then and holds a number of provincial records. He has been ranked FIRST in his age group in South Africa in the 100 and 200 Freestyle, every year since the age of 10. He has never been beaten in the 100 Freestyle in his age group. He has been beaten once only in the 200 Freestyle in his age group at a provincial gala. He has never lost in the 100 and 200 Freestyle at SA Junior Nationals.

Ethan trains 16 hours per week and swims approx. 40-50 km every week. He has now started doing light gym work.
