I am OGHAGHARE Ese Freeman, a passionate public health enthusiast and researcher with a strong interest in community-based interventions aimed at reducing health disparities especially amongst the vulnerable population [LGBTQIA, Women and Children].
I had my Bsc. in Biochemistry, Post graduate diploma in Food Science and Technology and a Master in Environmental Health Sciences. I am also an alumni of the prestigious European Research Course on the Atmosphere [ERCA, Grenoble, France]. It is worthy of note that I am a NEBOSH [National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (UK)] certified Occupational Safety and Health Professional.
My Journey into the field of health promotion and education was not a career path I had envisaged from the very beginning. As a research associate with Population Council, Nigeria; I was involved in data collection for the formative research on "Understanding the medicalization of female genital mutilation through qualitative research among families using health care worker providing medicalized FGM/C in Nigeria". Also, as the Strategic Knowledge Manager at the International Center for Advocacy on the Right to Health [ICARH]; I led a team in grant proposal and implementation for the project-"Promoting Awareness for Ending Female Genital Mutilation in Nigeria". The findings from these two project amongst other organizational experiences, reawakened and rekindled an interest in the up-take of health promotion interventions at the grass root level. It was apparent, the interplay and the influence of socio norm, beliefs and environment in self propagating negative health behaviors affecting primarily the vulnerable and defenseless population [women and children in particular]. To this end I established a non-profit organization- "Health Advancement and Safety Initiative for Women and Children" with a strategic focus in combining research, advocacy and evidence-based interventions that works.
In achieving this goal; it was imperative that I seek for a more purposeful training and exposure in health education and promotion. However, with no financial assistance and scholarship the task has been daunting. I am a matriculated graduate student at Southern Connecticut State University with a tuition per semester at $12,000. I have paid over $3,000, excluding other expenses [textbook, housing and feeding cost]. At present, I am owing well over $9,000 and have had my school account restricted and placed on hold. The result of which I am unable to register my courses for the next spring semester. Due to the shortness of time of grace given by the school administration; I may not be able to meet my financial obligations and commitments. The implication is that classes for the spring would soon be fully registered. It is on this regard I am calling on well meaning citizens to come to my aid and bail me out. Kindly make a donation today no matter how small it may seem; you just may have kept a career and hope alive. Thanks in anticipation.
