Emmie has had ongoing heart and kidney issues since birth, all caused from vascular birth defects (aortic coarctation, mid aortic syndrome, deformed left kidney and neurofibromytosis). She's been on 6 blood pressure meds her whole life. The 10 hour surgery she recently went through was to correct all of that. She has an aortic patch done to widen her aorta, right renal reconstruction and bypass to improve blood flow, and a partial nephrectomy on the left side to remove the deformed and poorly functioning upper pole of her left kidney. After they removed the upper pole, they discovered it was a cancerous tumor, called a Wilms tumor.
