Egon le Roux is an upcoming chef from Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth and has been chosen to represent South Africa at the Young Chefs Olympiad between 28th of January and the 2nd of February 2020 throughout five great cities of India.

THE GREATEST CULINARY OLYMPIAD ON PLANET EARTH

Only one representative per country is chosen and Egon will compete against young chefs from more than 60 countries at this global event for the ultimate honour of being crowned the winner at the biggest and best culinary event in the world for young chefs.

Although event participation is free, Egon requires funding to cover his (and his mentor's) air fare, accommodation and meals.

You can help this talented young man to realise his dream of becoming a world renowned chef through your donation.

Learn more about Egon from this short biography:

I’m Egon Le Roux, 19 years old from Port Elizabeth.

My culinary journey started as a young boy watching channels like the food network. It sparked an interest in me and wanting to know more about cooking I started to make supper for my family. Seeing their reaction of enjoyment and the smiles it put on their faces just ignited a fire in me and from that time on, I was hooked. Thereafter all I could ever envision myself becoming was a chef.

The more I learned the more I saw that food is an art. It has the ability to cross borders and you can learn so much about different cultures through food.

I come from humble beginnings and a community that faces loads of social and economic challenges but I have been blessed with an amazing support structure in my family, especially my parents who work hard for us and instilled in us good, strong morals and values based on strong faith. This played a massive role in who I am today and with my love for sport and cooking it kept me away from what goes on in the community on a daily basis. Thanks to this I was protected from falling victim to my surroundings. Now I am privileged to make my dream become a reality.

I come from the city of Port Elizabeth where I attended West End Primary school and matriculated from Alexander Road High School in 2018. Here I played first team rugby, was a class rep in my final year and received scroll awards for rugby and academics as well as the award for first in grade for the subject Mathematical Literacy.

For the past 10 months I have attending the South African Academy of Culinary Arts, pursuing an education in culinary arts and patisserie. I have loved every second.

Recently I was privileged to complete my internship at the 6th best restaurant in our country, La Petite Colombe, located in Franschhoek.

It is a great honour to have been chosen to represent South Africa at the Young Chef Olympiad and I am looking forward to this incredible journey.

Thank you for helping me making this amazing opportunity a reality!

A few words from Egon: To all those who have donated towards making my dream a reality, I cannot thank you enough. It means more to me than what you can imagine. The response and support that came from people I know and especially those that do not know me. . . . .
