There are street dogs everywhere in India. They live independently and generally happily to themselves in the cities and by the beaches, but occasionally there are little ones that are without their mothers who will not make it. Yesterday on the road I found him, merely a month old, alone and helpless and left to die if I did not scoop him up. From this moment, he became my responsibility. He cannot go to a shelter as he is too young and weak and adoption here is not easy - locals do not want these dogs, and because he has Mange he looks sickly and unwell. If I do not stay with him for some time he won’t have anywhere to go but back on the streets. And a 5 week old pup without his mother, in the condition he is in even more so, will not end well.
My plans have changed and he will have to come everywhere with me until I find him a home. It will cost me much more for travel and accommodation because I cannot take him onto buses or into most hostels.
Him and I rode an hour to the vet today so there are bills.
His fur is gone, he has mange and he needs medication to heal so he can survive the trek around India with me.
I have to find him a home here, and this time now is for me to take him everywhere with me until that home is found. Transport will be more, accommodation will be more, effort will be more but he will have a chance this way. Help me help this little guy have a family and grow into a healthy strong dog. He is totally my responsibility and if I run out of funds or have to abandon him he will have nowhere else to go. I am making this campaign to spread the word that HE NEEDS A HOME and in the hopes that someone will see him and take him in, and I am asking for support to help me pay for his health care and our travel until I find him a family. I will stay here until this happens.
His name is Vedder. Because he is ALIVE! You can call him Ed. Please help me help him!
All funds raised will go towards his health care and our travels for his benefit and once he finds a home any funds still remaining will go with him to help him on his journey or to any shelters I come across; this is not for me and my trip here!
My trek across this beautiful country will now be with him beside me. I’ve got a backpack he can fit in and it’s going to be an awesome but tough adventure!
