Never have I imagined that I'll be victimized by a pig-butchering scam.

I got scammed an amount of 17 661 USD. I'd also like to share this story so it won’t happen to anyone again.

Please feel free to share this post for everyone’s awareness.

I was casually browsing Tinder when I matched with this guy. He’s Taiwanese and just my type. I don’t message men first so I responded when he said “hi” to me. Then we moved to WhatsApp.

He was always asking how my day was until he mentioned about short term foreign exchange -- that he was taught by his uncle how to trade and he’s been doing it for 5 years.

He encouraged me to try, and I thought to myself, “This is a man who’ll teach me how to get up on my own feet and become more independent.” We started with 198 USD. The currency was bought in Binance and was transferred to Cobo (https://www.cobo666. com/download-en.aspx - not working anymore) for trading. I made around 66 USD at first and withdrew all the money (264 USD). I transferred more money to Cobo (with my friends' money included), made a trade again, and was able to withdraw 1300 USD.

“So this is good,” I thought to myself. “This man’s helping me become financially stable.”

Then he said there’s a big trend and I should invest more. I didn’t have the 5000 USD he initially wanted to put in as capital so he said we can also do 3000 USD. I asked my friends and also collected my funds and savings to put into the Cobo app. The 3000 USD grew to 21000 USD.

“I will now be able to build a house for my parents," I said to myself.

When I tried to withdraw for the third time, that’s when the scam escalated.

It was stuck for almost 24 hours. Then this man told me to ask customer support what’s happening. I asked customer support then they told me that I need to pay tax (5331 USD) because I had a great gain. I didn’t have that money, everything was already there. But I needed to take my money out. So I asked my friend if I can borrow money from her and she was able to find it from another friend (with her friend's car as collateral), thinking I’ll be able to pay it back once I withdraw my 21000 USD. I paid the tax amount and it ended up being deposited to my account because the amount lacked 1 dollar due to the processing fee.

I borrowed more money (5331 USD) from my managers at work and the tax got paid. But I still can’t withdraw the money. Customer service said that I was inactive (no trades or transactions) for 6 days so my account was put in a semi-frozen state. And that I needed to pay a top up of 12000 USD to get my credit score repaired and my account upgraded. The Taiwanese guy said he can help with 8000 USD, so I was thankful. But I had to find 4000 USD more. And yes, I was able to find it and topped up.

And yes, there was an issue again. The 8000 USD top up from this man was tagged as money laundering (even though the amount is below 10000 USD). So now they’re asking me for another 7500 USD to repair my account. That’s when I realized I was being scammed. It’s an organized crypto scam and there have been posts on Reddit about it.

I had hints and doubts but that’s when I fully realized what it was. My goal was to get the money out. So I was stuck in an endless cycle of borrowing more and more money until I accumulated a debt of Php 816 000.

I now have nothing left in my account but a whopping amount of debt. I know it’s stupid and I also got funds from people who need the money.

I'm currently looking for side jobs so I can make my finances meet and be able to pay back everything I owe.

Let this also be a lesson to everyone that even though you’re alone/lonely, never trust anyone you don’t fully know.

---------------------------

I decided to go public about the issue though I felt ashamed and afraid at first because I want to give the victims a voice.

At least 4 women reached out to me stating that they (or a family member) experienced the same scam. When I spoke with them, I observed that they felt the same thing when it happened. The feeling of being in denial, the feeling of wanting to end everything, being ashamed, and not wanting to share it with anyone.

I've initiated a fund raising campaign to help myself and other victims in getting back on track. All funds raised will be used to pay back my debt and liquidation will be posted on my Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/dorie.mae

I promise that once our fundraising goal is achieved, I will share the excess funds to other victims and continue to document the disbursement on Facebook.

I also pledge to continue raising awareness on crypto pig-butchering scams by creating content regularly and sharing them using social media and other platforms.

Please also beware as these scamming groups have infested all types of dating sites and apps including the Facebook dating feature. Once you match with them, they'll ask how you are and then implant the idea of short term foreign exchange investing in your mind.

You'll get curious if you are not familiar with the field and they'll lure you in even deeper.

Thank you for reading my story and for your help!
