I have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)

Pulmonary fibrosis is a type of lung disease that results in scarring of the lungs. Over time, the scarring gets worse and your lungs become hard, then it’s harder to take in a deep breath, and the lungs cannot take in enough oxygen to supply the body. The word Idiopathic means of unknown cause, meaning they don’t know how I got it.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive and life-threatening disease with a poor prognosis. According to the study “Clinical Course and Prediction of Survival in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis” the median survival rate for patients diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis is 3 - 5 years, with respiratory failure resulting from disease progression being the most frequent cause of death. So, I’m dying from a disease of unknown origin, with no known cure and no one knows how long I’ll have.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare disease that affects approximately 5 million people worldwide. The prevalence is estimated to be slightly higher in men than in women.

I need to raise funds to purchase myself a portable oxygen concentrator to allow me to continue to stay active and to continue working. It will allow me to be able to play and go for walks with my young daughters, something I am no longer able to do. Right now, I struggle to breath. Just by standing up alone causes my oxygen levels to drop dangerously low. The model to best fit my needs retails for around R31000. Unfortunately this is not something that is covered by medical Insurance and we would not be able to afford out of pocket.
