Help doaa start a new life and continue her education after years of abuse and mysogyny.

My name is Doaa Abashar, a 24 year old Sudanese girl that has recently fled my country to South Africa. I gave up everything to be free. My parents, friends, and even education. I was a straight A marketing student but had to quit since life in Sudan was no longer tolerable.

I had an abusive father that would continuously shout, hit, and underestimate my mother and I. The emotional abuse just brought my self esteem down day after day.

Sudan is a very conservative, Islamic country. Life there as a woman was torturous. Male guardianship took over the country. I couldn't leave the house alone, couldn't drive, couldn't interact with males, couldn't dress up the way I wanted to. I just couldn't do the things that any normal 24 year old would do. I am not a muslim and if that was found out there, I would face the death penalty for "renouncing Islam". I planned on running away but what really pushed me to was when one day my father wanted me to drop out of college and get into an arranged marriage with a man older than my old father. I just sold all my belongings, gathered my savings and booked a flight to Johannesburg.

On November 15 2019, I arrived and after the immigration checks I just felt relieved, I felt like I was finally free. I felt like the liberal woman I am. No more abuse, no more mysogyny, I wouldn't have to practice a religion that I didn't believe in, I wad just FREE.

But my main aim from this fundraiser is to go back to college, and continue my dream as a marketing student. Marketing is my passion and I really hope that one day I can graduate as a marketing agent that will make a difference in this world.
