Help Denzi Get Her Health Back
Introduction
Denica, or Denzi to her relatives and closest friends, and I got married last May 2015 and we were already planning to build our own family. Six months into the marriage life, we received a life-changing news. In December 2015, she got admitted in the hospital after visiting her OB Gynecologist. She already needed to have a blood transfusion due her heavy menstrual flow.
I am an overseas worker based in Singapore and I flew back to
Manila as soon as I learned about her condition. We were supposed to happily
celebrate our first Christmas together as a married couple but ended up
spending it in the hospital. At that time, her creatinine level was way above
normal and we were referred to a nephrologist. She was then diagnosed with an
ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease), a chronic kidney disease. We sought for a
second opinion and still got the same result. We were so devastated to learn
that Denzi must undergo such challenges at a young age. She was supposed to be
enjoying her life as a homemaker but we cannot have children because of her
condition.
The
Journey
Denzi was advised to undergo hemodialysis 3x a week until she gets a kidney transplant. As much as I wanted to be with her in this challenging time, I needed to go back to Singapore to work even harder to support her treatment. I and her family are doing everything that we can to make ends meet. She tried to live a normal life as we save up for her treatment, however, times seems to be tougher. Life confronts us with challenges one after another.
Having treatment while admitted due to shortness of breath.
She had faced several misfortunes and complications during her treatment. There were instances that she had blood clot during hemodialysis; her hemoglobin count dropped and needed another blood transfusion; a leak during another hemodialysis session because the nurse failed to secure the tube – which could have caused her her life. Her situation makes it very exhausting for her and for all of us. We are already stretching our budget to pay for her medical treatment.
We have attended seminars regarding the pre- and post- operation and the maintenances that she needs. We also learned how much it will cost us to have the transplant. In her case, it is roughly about SGD 52K (PHP 2 Million Pesos). Being an average-income family that we are, we were perplexed on how we will be able to come up with such huge amount. But we are grateful to all of our friends and family who have been very supportive in every aspect towards this journey.
Almost 2 years of battling her illness, we are still working on our budget to fund her dialysis and save up for the kidney transplant. Things got even worse when just few months ago as she experienced shortness of breath and was rushed to the hospital. After undergoing 2D echo, they found some fluid in her heart. Her cardiologist ruled out that Denzi has a heart failure and only 33% of her heart is working.
The Expenses
Aside from the regular hemodialysis 3x a week and the kidney transplant, Denzi was advised to undergo a heart angiogram. This is to check the status of her heart and to ensure that it is in good condition in preparation for her transplant.
Last June, Denzi was rushed again to the hospital in the wee hours of the night and we were told that she had a mild heart attack. We got so worried thinking about the possibility that it may happen again and make things even worse. We saw another cardiologist and were relieved that Denzi’s heart condition might still be treated through medicines. However, this means another series of expenses as the medication will be sort of maintenance for her.
She also got operated few weeks ago to fix her access for hemodialysis. She always gets blood clot during her session prompting her to do 4 hemodialysis a week instead of the usual 3 to make up for the lost time due to clotting, additional cost on our part.
After fixing her Access. Stitches Again! Ouch!
The Plea
Life has got a lot in store for Denzi. She got a lot of
potentials that cannot be maximized at this point due to her condition. That is
why my dear friends, colleagues, relatives and those who are able to read this,
we are appealing to your kind hearts to help us in these trying times. Our
family needs your help. We would appreciate and would be forever grateful for
any help that we could get from you. Any amount will go a long way. Please help
us raise funds for Denzi’s medication. The amount will be allocated for her
heart angiogram, hemodialysis, kidney transplant and medicines.
Denzi dreams of a normal and happy family life so let us help her get her health back.
Thank you and God bless your heart.
Her loving husband,
Martin

I am so very, very sorry that you are suffering. I can’t imagine how terrifying this must be and how helpless you must all feel. I am hoping you can find some modicum of comfort during this difficult treatment and recovery. I will be thinking of you all and praying that each day gets just a little easier. You both deserve nothing but the best this life has to offer. *HUGS*
