The objective of this collective funding is to allow the participation of Brazilian delegate Natan Barbosa at the 22nd Session of the Youth Assembly (https://www.youthassembly.nyc/) to be held at the UN headquarters in New York (USA) from August 9 to 14, 2018. The forest engineering student will meet delegates from over a hundred countries to discuss and generate international reports to enhance the implementation of 17 Sustainable Development Objectives. The main theme to be spoken by the delegate will be climate change and global forests.
Nowadays, Brazilian forests are all over the news whether for the great biodiversity and richness or the high rates of land use change that advance with use of deforestation and burning. The Carbon Zero Program (www.carbonozero.ufv.br) is a youth led initiative coordinated by Natan Barbosa and the Environmental Economics and Forest Management Study Group. Since its creation in 2010, it has already sensitized thousands of young people and adults to rethink their consumption habits by the inventory and neutralization of urban and rural emissions. Natan Barbosa will be the spokesperson for this program and put the most important environmental conflicts on discussion for international delegates.
