Few people cross our path and leave such a positive and profound spark in our worlds as Dana Todd. She is genuine, kind, compassionate and generous. Those of us who know her can say we are better, happier and even stronger when we are around her. She is a wonderful mother to a beautiful 14 year-old. Many of you know Dana from her advocacy work disability community, from her tireless efforts to assist those with a need or as even as that someone who helps you register to vote and have your voice heard. Some of you have been her students or mentees. Some of us are lucky enough to call her family and a friend.
Unfortunately, Dana has been struggling for some time with Primary
Sjorgen’s Syndrome and kidney failure. As of late, these symptoms have reached a
critical level. She has now been diagnosed with a rare tumor called a
pheochromocytoma. Without treatment, this type of tumor is fatal. Dana's insurance company has denied coverage for this surgery.
Appeals are happening but having navigated this US healthcare nightmare for the last 18 months just to get this far with maintenance treatment, means Dana does not have much time to waste. She is now in stage 4 renal failure. Dana has found a hospital that is willing to work with her, providing one of two necessary surgeries, before it is too late. Dana has been advised that she will require at minimum of three months recovery time if all goes well.
This fundraiser has been put into place to help with cost of surgery and expenses during her recovery. Having made a career of helping those less fortunate, Dana has many costs associated with this surgery and aftercare will not all be covered by her limited income. Most of you know, Dana was widowed after her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Dana was unable to work during several months of his illness which caused extreme financial hardship for her as she was the sole provider for their family. Dana was just beginning recover from this hardship when her insurance company began denying necessary and paying less toward the cost of other necessary treatment . Dana is SO grateful to each and every one you that desires to help in any way you can. It goes without saying but I'll say it anyway, we know Dana will spend her life paying all the love and help forward.

All donations will be handled by me as the executor/ non-financially affiliated 3rd party- with vendors paid directly. This means amounts will not be garnished to pay for pre-existing medical bills and ensures we can raise enough money to actually pay for the surgery Dana needs NOW. **
