Hello current and potential sponsors. We are in awe at how rapidly we are to reaching our original goal. This goal was projected to service 40 inner city youth for the summer of 2022. LYLP would like to commit to servicing 100 youth. We can achieve this by raising our goal to $50,000.

We believe, with your support, we can achieve this sooner than later. Think about it, 100 youth learning to be better leaders in our community; at NO COST: small investment for the potential benefits to our community.

Thank you again

A critical point in a person’s life includes the experiences one has from the ages of 10 to 16. Many of us from disadvantaged backgrounds were lucky enough to be a part of the National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), where we were given an opportunity to have access to many new and positive experiences. We went from hanging out on the streets with little to no resources in the summer to getting lessons in sports we could never imagine participating in. These included basketball, softball, tennis, golf, crew, swimming, and a multitude of other sports. Beyond the sports, we also participated in math and science educational activities. We enjoyed amazing nutritious meals for breakfast and lunch while being around supportive role models. Lifelong friendships were created through a positive learning atmosphere. We were able to eventually work as junior counselors or counselors. Unfortunately, NYSP lost federal funding because of cutbacks leaving over 250 Lowell youth without a summer program that could have positively impacted/shaped their lives.

In the years that followed, many of us had conversations about bringing back the program because of what it meant to us and the impact it made. Earlier this year, a group of former campers, junior counselors, counselors, administrative staff, and friends turned the conversations to actions. We created the Lowell Youth Leadership Program(LYLP) which is an evolution of the former NYSP to serve our disadvantaged youth. We believe that this program is needed now more than ever, especially with today’s world climate, negative effects of social media on youth, and their overall disengagement and lack of opportunity. Many of us involved with LYLP came from a background of gangs, violence, poverty, or mental health issues, but with the experience of NYSP we are successful adults who believe in building and raising our community.

It has come full circle for us so we are passionate about creating a program that will start building the next generation of leaders.

We genuinely hope you are able to help us raise enough money to provide this outstanding opportunity for the youth in our city. Your donations will go to funding the program for two weeks in July 2022. We hope to grow the program every summer.

MISSION STATEMENT

LYLP will connect and engage Lowell Youth empowering them to develop life skills and guiding them to lead and thrive through cooperation with each other. LYLP will continually strive to grow our commitment to the kids and strengthen our relationship with the surrounding community.

LYLP’s goal is to serve Lowell youth 10-16 at no cost to the participants. The program will combine vital life skills (diversity training, violence prevention, drug and alcohol education, and communication skills) with a variety of sports opportunities and instruction. This will focus on a mind-body connection between mental and physical health while proving healthy meals to all participants.
