Campaign Story
Bogs "The Wall" Amahit needs your help.
A positive and happy energy to everyone around him... ๐
An inspiration to his players, team, friends and family. ๐ช
A strong, sweet, fun-loving husband and father. โค
Our dear Papa Bogs (Arolas A. Amahit Jr.) is battling Stage 4 colon cancer. We ask your kind hearts for financial support and prayers for his continued treatments, hospital expenses, chemotherapy and medical needs.
First diagnosed with stage 2B colon cancer, Bogs underwent laparoscopic surgery in January 2018. He managed to resume his activities and was on the road to recovery after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
This allowed him to do what he loves best -- serve the country as team coach of the Philippine badminton team, as players and coaches prepared intensely for the 2019 Southeast Asian Games that was held in Manila.
In his younger years, Bogs also served the country as national team player from 1993 to 2007, during which he earned the moniker "The Wall" for his vaunted net and smash defense that was difficult for opponents to penetrate. He donned the Philippine colors in various international meets and was part of the formidable and world-ranked men's doubles tandem alongside Ian Piencenaves.
However, after the teamโs promising SEA Games stint in 2019, and following a brief visit to his hometown in Dumaguete City, Bogs was in pain again in January 2020.
The diagnosis: The cancer had recurred, and this time was diagnosed as Stage IV.
He went under the knife to protect his colon, but the surgery and subsequent chemotherapy treatments caused his condition to deteriorate.
We would be in and out of the hospital requiring back-and-forth blood transfusions and electrolytes correction, but the decline in his physical condition prevented him from continuing his treatments.
We were at our lowest point in June 2020 when his doctor said there was nothing more he could do to help Bogs; that his cancer was too aggressive and his treatments were no longer working.
Keeping our faith and trust in God, however, we stayed positive and refused to be discouraged.
As Bogs would often tell his players when the odds were stacked against them: "Laban lang!"
So we went for a second opinion. Thankfully, an enterostomy procedure performed on him in September 2020 allowed him to eat well to nourish his body and resume treatments. Although Bogs remains in pain and needs fluid corrections every so often, we are now able to undergo chemotherapy and other treatments at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.
All this, however, has taken a great toll on our finances.
As we still have a long journey ahead of us, our family is asking your kind hearts for financial help to treat, heal and help our dear Papa Bogs regain his health so that he can continue to serve our country and inspire athletes, players and especially our own children. ๐
To all those who have reached out to us during this difficult time to help us with financial assistance, blood and material donations, food, words of encouragement, kind gestures, and most of all your prayers, we THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for your love and concern for Bogs.
You have made Bogs stronger and we, his family, more keenly aware of how truly blessed we are despite these circumstances.
To those who will donate to our cause, thank you for your kindness and generosity. May The Lord bless you a thousandfold and protect you always. ๐
