Claire & Anael have been working with medicinal plants for a combined 47 years. They work in this ancient tradition as curanderos. Curanderos medicinal healing work is reliant on the plants grown in the rainforests of Peru, the Amazon. Their work is focused on providing healing in a sustainable way, working with the forest synergistically.

Claire & Anael directly depend on the forest. The medicinal plants they work with are under threat. In order to prevent further damage and loss of the local rainforest Claire & Anael plan to purchase land to create botanical nurseries, planting and preserving medicinal plants and trees, protecting the land for the community and future generations.

Your donation will go towards the purchase of a small piece of land, forever protecting its forest from degradation. With the second largest area of rainforest in the world, Peru is one of the most bio-diverse countries, with over 330,000 people who depend directly on the country's forests for their livelihoods.

The Amazon has just been listed by WWF as a top deforestation front—one of the 11 regions expected to have more deforestation and forest degradation than anywhere else by 2030. In the Peruvian Amazon, the main culprits of deforestation are commercial mining, related road construction and illegal logging. Claire & Anael have witnessed this forest degradation first hand.

One of the only ways for indigenous communities to prevent deforestation is to gain legal ownership of the land. The purchase of land would provide Claire & Anael with legal rights to the land, preventing further forest degradation.
