Cikananga Wildlife Center & Wanicare are struggling as a result of the developing Corona crisis. Currently a substantial source of income has quickly reduced to zero as we needed to close Cikananga from visitors such as interns and volunteers. This income has helped Cikananga in the past to pay for the daily animal care such as food and basic medication.
Now we are suddenly in a situation where we need to use our limited savings to feed all 450+ animals in our care. These animals, varying from bears to many bird species and primates such as orang-utans and many more are in need of your help.
On top of this difficult situation confiscations are on-going, while all releases and translocations are suspended. This means that the total number of animals will only grow over the coming period, such as the 65 birds and reptiles that arrived this weekend (27 March).
At the moment we are working around the clock to make sure that these animals properly are housed and get the required care. Many of them are in a critical condition and in need of extensive medical care.
The current financial income to feed and care for the 450+ animals that we are missing is equal to the usual income we generate through the now stopped volunteer & internship program, which is approximately IRD Rp. 50 million (~Euro 2800) per month. To bridge the first month in this situation the animals of Cikananga are helped with a similar amount.
We expected that this situation will continue for a longer period of time, so more financial help is very welcome.
About Cikananga Wildlife Center & Wanicare
On West-Java, Indonesia we take care of 450+ protected animals that come from the illegal wildlife trade or lost their habitat as a result of human activity. We offer professional medical care, active rehabilitation and build proper enclosures to ensure the wellbeing of the animals and strive to release all confiscated wild animals back into their natural habitat. Education is a central theme in our work as we involve local and international students and enthusiasts in our work. Since 2009 Wanicare Foundation is hands-on supporting Cikananga with the work of helping wildlife in need.
We rely on the support of many individuals and funds as well the daily income of a volunteer & internship program to care for these animals. This has come to a full stop as a result of restricted travel measures and quarantine procedures following the corona (CoVid-19) crisis. Any questions, help or ideas to support the animals are welcome at [email protected] - www.wanicare.com
