Campaign Story
What does one’s success depend on? Talent and dedication are for sure among the key factors but, in Christina’s case, it also depends on you!
Our friend Christina Loizou is a brilliant twenty-one year-old Cypriot student who is enrolled in the last semester of her bachelor degree. Although she is very close to graduating, she won't graduate unless we help her pay for her university fees since her family is facing financial struggles following her father's sudden loss.
Why should you donate? Let us tell you a little bit about Christina: Testimonials
We know for a matter of fact that she is not at all lacking neither talent nor dedication, and the context where we had the pleasure of meeting her says it all. It was August 2021, we were in Lisbon to attend a summer school on leadership that was open only to one selected student per EU country, who was also granted a full scholarship to participate. Ever since then, she stood out for her kindness, intuitiveness and hard work in all of the activities of the school and of our alumnae network. She is very close to graduating from her BBA in Marketing Communication at University of Nicosia and we all know that she is meant to go far, pursuing a brilliant leading career in marketing, which she chose as her major because it’s a field that combines her interest in technology with her creative spirit. Being passionate about sustainability (alongside women’s rights and animals rights), she would also love to specialise in sustainability and green marketing. However, as mentioned before, significant financial difficulties got in the way of the well deserved accomplishment which is her degree.
A few months ago, Christina’s father passed away. Not only his sudden loss caused incommensurable pain, but it also affected the financial stability of Christina’s family since he was the one providing for their family of 5. Christina’s mother had to start working after several years of inactivity (she had stopped working after her second pregnancy to take care of her daughters) and Christina herself is working part-time jobs (to which she is not even new, as she was already committed to gaining her own money to contribute in financing her education), but their currently available resources are not enough to pay the university fee due for her last semester: they have to give priority to repaying two debts (one of which is the mortgage of their house) that the family ended up having after the economic crisis that hit Cyprus in 2013, leaving Christina’s father unemployed at the time.
If Christina is not able to cover this cost by the end of June 2023, her university will not let her graduate. The aim of the campaign that we are launching here is to collect 5,351.20€ to pay for the entire university fee. Every donated euro can make a difference in not letting Christina give up on the dream career she worked so hard and passionately for!
“My dad was always showing his pride for me and always thought that I would achieve big things. He is not here anymore to see my achievements like me finally getting my degree, after all these sacrifices we both made for it (we were already in a difficult financial situation before he passed but would always find a way to pay the fees even if they were delayed) and I still can’t believe that he won’t be there with me, to see me on that day.”
