Help Christians fight COVID-19 with Love and Compassion.

Dear Christian Friend,

The Covid-19 or corona crisis is one of the most dramatic events to have hit the world since the devastation caused by the Second World War. A global event like this one, that has the entire world in a firm, relentless grip, hits each member of every community very hard indeed! While companies fear for the survival of their businesses, employees and freelancers fear for their very existence and for that of their families, not to mention the fear of the corona virus making its way into their own homes. At a time like this, while many of us are isolated from the people we usually spend time with, we believers need to come together in spirit, and show solidarity for those less fortunate than ourselves. For those who have been left alone to cope by themselves.

While the medical systems in some countries are very efficient and socially structured, there are many countries – even some that are well developed – that do not have such good structures in place, and quite frankly, the people who live in countries like that are pretty much left to their own devices. At a time when people need a lot of support from others, there is nobody standing by to offer them any assistance. This only adds to the fears of those affected, who are also faced with a lack of suitable medical assistance coupled with the purely financial aspect of having to pay for treatment although they are already battling financially due to the lockdowns that are affecting most parts of the world.

At this very moment, many worshippers in our churches have tested corona positive, and find themselves in dire need, due to lack of medical and financial aid. These people need help, and as every country, every medical system and every government department, is currently in a state of crisis, those affected simply have nowhere to turn for assistance.

We have decided to pay these loyal worshippers a visit, so that we can offer them crucial medical assistance to relieve their suffering. We want to make a bold statement to the world: We are strong! Our community is powerful – stronger than any systems, governments or states, because it is backed by Almighty God Himself. His eyes are not closed to the suffering. His heart is not cold and disassociated from what is happening to our word and His people at the moment.

So, we call on you now, to open your hearts wide, as a signal of your love for your fellow man, your fellow Christian, and not least of all, to what Jesus Christ is calling you to do. Just as He refused to turn his back on lepers and outcasts, so we call on you to enable us to make a difference right now, during this crisis that has reached proportions that have never been seen before. Your help would make our Catholic community stand out as a shining beacon – a shining light of example to other communities and governments.
