Our 2-year-old kitty - Chewie (named after Chewbacca because his parents love Star Wars, as well as the word ‘chew’ because he used to chew on everything) has been diagnosed with FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis) of wet form. It is a very rare and aggressive form of virus with only one known form of treatment. The drug is called GS - 441524. The treatment is very effective, but unfortunately extremely expensive.Without the therapy cats usually survive for a few days/weeks/maximum of 2 months after showing symptoms and it’s pretty much completely fatal without the administration of this therapy.

Because of FIP, Chewie has a belly full of fluid that makes it difficult for him to move and eat. He has a fever and might get other symptoms as the illness progresses.

Chewie needs to get injections of the drug every day for a minimum of 84 days.
EDIT: after last blood test results we now have to prolong that period for a few more weeks.

COST:

For the first 5 weeks we had to spend over 40 euros per day for injections. On week 5 we had to increase the dosage from 5mg/kg to 8mg/kg, so that for the past 7 weeks we have been paying around 80 euros per day (he gained some weight as well, so it gets even more expensive).
Due to not satisfactory blood tests - increased globulins level, we have to further increase the dosage to 12mg/kg, which adds up to 110 euros PER DAY. And we might have to prolong the treatment even for up to 6 weeks.

Above costs don't include costs of shipping the drug from abroad, costs of periodical veterinary check-ups and daily administration of the drug by a vet.
As of today, 20th of July, we have spent around 6000 euros in less than 3 months (about 20% was paid from donations and family support, remaining 80% from our pocket and savings). Our savings have finished, and from our salaries we can only pay for about 10 days of treatment at that point (it will last until the end of July). After that we can only count on people's good hearts...

We realise that times are difficult for everyone right now. Being musicians ourselves, we lost part of our monthly income too, which makes it even more difficult for us to pay for Chewie’s treatment. Any help and contribution you can make towards his cause would be greatly appreciated.

We understand if you can’t afford to donate, but if you would still like to help our cause - please share this crowdfund across your social media platforms. This would already be incredibly helpful!

Chewie's Story

Chewie was found by us on the street in Greece when he was just 1 month old and he was very poorly. We were told we should not expect him to survive. But after only a week he started getting stronger and started living his best life as a normal and healthy kitten. He is also a very well-traveled kitty. When he was only 3 months old his parents transported him to England, where they lived at the time. 10 months later he was on the plane back to Greece, because of his parents indecisiveness on where they want to live ;) He’s been to the beach side of Chalkidiki too, and now he’s living in Thessaloniki.

He is an extremely active cat, he easily gets into mischief but you can’t not love him even for that. He bites on feet at night, likes playing fetch, quickly destroys any toys he gets and he absolutely loves heights. He makes us laugh every day, he is the cutest cat we know, and there is nothing in the world that could describe our love towards him!

We're fighting!

We believe that, with the help of this drug, his strong spirit will manifest the illness and he will be able to go back to his best self and live a long and happy life, be naughty and lively again. He is not even 2 years old yet, but he managed to teach us so much! His loving soul, playful character and courage have been sparks of joy in our lives.

He went through so much already, he deserves the best life, and that’s why we are going to fight and we are not giving up.

Pricy treatment, however, will be very draining financially for us. At the moment we are not able to pay for all of the remedy needed. We would hate to be in a position when we cannot afford next batch.
We will be grateful even for the smallest donation.

However, if someone does decide to donate a bit more, we have a small prize as a “thank you”. We, Chewie’s parents, are musicians (Ada is a singer and Nikos a guitarist), so we’ve decided that after the end of the crowdfund, we will write and record a custom, original song for the person who donates the biggest sum, and for 3 next largest donators we will record one cover each of your choice ;)

Each of you is our hero,

Sincerely - thank you!

Nikos and Ada

Here's a bonus video of tiny Chewie. Enjoy the cuteness ;)

The fight is not over!

Update posted by Adrianna Hebisz at 10:15 am

Today is day 83 of injections. We hoped that tomorrow would be the very last day of treatment, but unfortunately, this won't be the case.3 days ago we received Chewie's new blood test results that indicate very high globulins level (indicative of FIP). That means that we not only have. . . . .

Over a third of the way done!

Update posted by Nikolaos Makris at 02:07 pm

Here I am, waiting at the vet's today to have day 34/84 of injections. If you think I look fatter it's because I'm healthier and I've gained some of my weight back since I started the therapy. But really, don't call me fat, it's just the perspective!

Hi, it's Chewie again. Yesterday I completed my full first week of injections. I'm starting to get some of my energy back. Today was the 8th day of my injections and as you can see I'm a very good boy waiting patiently in my carrier at the vet's, even though

My shaved belly

Update posted by Adrianna Hebisz at 06:28 pm

It's Chewie again! Look at my shaved belly - vet had to get rid of my fur to extract fluids from my stomach. I'm not too worried about my partial baldness though. I will have cute and furry belly again in no time! 😉

Chewie runs around with his bloated belly

Update posted by Nikolaos Makris at 05:38 pm

Chewie feels good enough to even run a bit! (He clearly doesn't want to be filmed hehe 😉)You can see how bloated his belly is because of fluids gathering there.
