Help Chatowa Kawonga Fight Her Rare Blood Disorder*

Chatowa Kawonga is a 17-year-old girl from Zambia who is suffering from a rare blood disorder that affects her platelets. Her family has been doing everything they can to help her get the medical attention she needs, but unfortunately, the treatment for her condition is inconclusive in Zambia.

Chatowa's mother is a single parent and has been struggling to provide for her family. She has been doing her best to provide for Chatowa's medical needs, but the cost of treatment is beyond their financial means.

Her condition is called von Willebrand disease (VWD) and was confirmed in October 2022 and is being managed at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) using oral medication, which, unfortunately give her some side effects that include a swollen tongue and/or oral ulcers . The same condition (VWD) has in turn given her severe Menometrorrhagia, which has increased drastically within the past 2 years, associated eczema. The coagulation screen showed a prolonged bleeding time.

At one point Chatowa and ended up in hospital getting a total of 10 blood transfusions 2 weeks before her grade 12 exams and upon discharge, despite being weak and in pain she took her final exams. When the the results were announced, Chatowa achieved her 6 points (7 distinctions and 1 merit) and was the only pupil at her school to attain the said points. Chatowa has been through a lot in her young life, and it breaks our hearts to see her suffering. She is a high achiever with a bright future ahead of her, and with the right treatment, she can overcome her condition and achieve her dreams.

That's why we are starting this fundraising campaign to help raise $6,000 to cover Chatowa's travel, treatment, accommodation, and post-treatment recovery in India where they will carry out more test to ascertain the course of management or indeed treatment for her illness.

We believe that every child deserves a chance to live a healthy and happy life, and we hope you can join us in supporting Chatowa.

We know that times are tough for everyone right now, but any amount you can donate will make a big difference in Chatowa's life. Every coin counts, and we appreciate any support you can give.

Let's come together as a community and help Chatowa get the treatment she needs to fight her rare blood disorder.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Goal: $6,000

*Note*: All donors will receive a thank-you email from Chatowa and her family.

Please donate what you can and share this campaign with your friends and family. Let's help Chatowa get the treatment she needs and deserves.
