Hi everyone. My friend, Celiwe Shange, has fallen on hard times and I am trying to help her get back on her feet so I have set up this fundraiser on her behalf. I have asked her to share her story. Here it is:
I am a single mother of a teenage girl. We live with my mother who is in very poor health and my two sisters and nephew. In July 2020 we lost my father, the backbone of our family, to cancer and kidney failure.
This changed our lives drastically and I became the sole breadwinner of the family.
Things worsened when I lost my job in December 2020 due to COVID-19. We are now struggling to put food on the table. My mother is 70 years old and her old age grant only covers her monthly doctor's visits.
I'm an experienced, passionate cook with knowledge of how to run a business and I want to start a fast food business both to feed others and to allow me to put food on my family’s table. What I need to take this step to turn our lives around is financial capital. There is a venue I've been offered to use but I need to pay rent each month with an upfront payment.
Celiwe is generous, passionate and dedicated. I know that she will use this opportunity to uplift everyone around her. To start this small business will cost Celiwe ZAR16500 (NZD$1620*), which will be used towards rent, equipment, ingredients, permits, etc. Can you help change Celiwe and her family's lives for the better?
*We are fundraising in NZD as we couldn't get anything working directly in ZAR.
