Help Cathy & Lee

Update posted by Frontdooroxford On Jan 24, 2015

furnitureWe've got some fantastic news... Cathy, Lee and Missy have got a flat! At long last they've got a roof over their heads, and with the weather getting colder and colder at the moment,  it can't come a moment too soon.

Thank you so very much to everyone who has contributed to the campaign so far - whether you gave £1, £100 or just sent your kind thoughts and good wishes, your generosity has been amazing.

Cathy and Lee's new home is unfurnished, so any more money we can raise to help them get started in their new home would be brilliant. They need everything from pots and pans to beds and binbags, from crockery to curtains, and from lightbulbs to loo paper. And Cathy and Lee are busy lining up job interviews too, so anything you can spare to help them buy the smart clothes they need to make a good impression will really help.

You've all done so much, and helped make a miracle happen by getting a roof over Cathy, Lee and Missy's heads. Please share this page with your friends and help us get their new home up and running!

what a shame people judge so severely. i spoke to cathy when she was homeless. Which indeed she was so no ’fraud’ her home did indeed burn down her dog did die, she also lost her daughter to sids, she broke down with grief and needed help and support from loved ones yet she was alone, she went back on drugs and lost her children. she has nothing and no one. no wonder she doesn’t want to talk about it. don’t judge Cathy is no FRAUD!!!!

DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY!!!!! They are absolute frauds!!!!!! Her parents are still alive and she has family too including children who they turned their backs. Cathy and Lee have been together for over 13 years and chose drugs over everything.

Good news! We just need to raise another £500 to secure Cathy and Lee a flat!

In my last update, I shared how difficult it was proving to find a home for Cathy, Lee and Missy. So I'm delighted to be able to say that, at long last, they've been offered a flat.

To secure it, they need to pay a deposit and one month's rent up front, which comes to £1950. So we need to raise an extra £500 to get them over that finish line.

I know you've all done so much already, but please help Cathy, Lee and Missy get into their home by sharing this page with everyone you know.

One last push!

Many, many thanks to everyone who has so generously donated to Cathy and Lee's campaign.  Your support has been truly amazing and we can't thank you enough.

Now we'd like to ask all you wonderful people for more help: can you help find Cathy and Lee and Missy a home? It's proving really difficult to find a room, house, flat, caravan or anywhere to rent where Missy can come too. It's especially difficult to find somewhere that would also be ok for Cathy and Lee to live there whilst claiming Housing Benefit.

So, lovely people, please keep your eyes and ears open. If you know of a room, a flat, a house or a caravan where this little family could live, or if you know of a landlord who might have somewhere available,  please tell them about Cathy and email [email protected]

Many thanks to you all for caring... and do keep sharing this page with anyone who might donate!

Missy

Missy is Cathy and Lee's puppy. After losing her dog, Storm, Cathy was very reluctant to get another dog - not only was she still grieving for Storm, her companion of 14 years, but she didn't want a dog to have to live on the streets. Then one day a couple approached her on her Big Issue pitch and put Missy into her arms, explaining that they couldn't find a home for the puppy and that if Cathy didn't want her she'd have to be given to the RSPCA.

What would you do?

Missy is a happy, playful, friendly puppy who wants to be cuddled by everybody. See her in action on YouTube! Part Jack Russell, part Dachshund, and part goodness-knows-what, she is very well behaved and loves Cathy and Lee to bits. Cathy makes sure she gets all her vaccinations, vet treatment and proper food... even when Cathy and Lee are going short themselves.

Help Missy by getting her people off the streets this Christmas. Please donate what you can.

If you're an Oxford local you've probably been aware of Cathy and Lee's story, but if you haven't seen the articles about them in the Oxford Mail, why not take 5 minutes now to read about the boat fire, and how they've been trying to put themselves together ever since:

The reports of the fire (6 November 2014)

Cathy and Lee after the fire, coping with tragic loss of Storm (7 November 2014)

Hope of help... sadly this didn't come through (17 November 2014)

Please help them now by donating to this appeal, and let's get them off the streets!
