Help Casper

Who is Casper?

Casper was a cat I picked up from the SPCA, he'd been classified as difficult to handle cat and had been brought back from the previous family that had adopted him. From the moment I opened that cage and he jumped out and clung to me, I knew he'd chosen me and I him.

Why do I need help?

On Nov 27th 2014, my best friend and constant companion of 12 years was diagnosed with Carcinoma (Cancer). He's had a lot of close calls over the years but this looks like it might be his final struggle.  He wasn't breathing well and barely eating so I brought him to our regular veterinarian, did all the tests and it turns out he had a mass covering most of his intestines and liquid in his chest preventing the full expansion of his lungs.

Since then, We've seen an oncologist, confirmed the cancer and gone through chemotherapy as well as several sessions of draining the liquid caused by the cancer so he could breathe properly. As it stands, he's currently on a treatment to slow the leak of this liquid created by the cancer, keep Casper comfortable and eating regularly and hopefully gain some weight back. He used to be a healthy strong cat at 16lbs and now is down to 10lbs feeling all of his bones and having trouble jumping up on the couch to hang out in my lap. He still purrs and has fight in him, he always has.

He's now eating regularly, moving around more and his breathing is much better since we started the treatments and thankfully, the liquid has slowed down considerably as well.

I'm not sure how much longer he has knowing that this type of cancer is extremely aggressive, but being in the middle of personal issues and dealing with the expenses for Casper at the same time has left me quite desperate. Any help would be appreciated and I want to keep doing everything I can for my cat, as long as he's happy and not in pain, as I can't imagine losing this friend that's always been there for me without giving him all the chances he deserves.
