Help CAPISTRANO FAMILY with Dialysis treatment for MANNY – our last chance

Dear Friends,

Some of you may know that (Kuya) Manny Capistrano, 66 years old, has stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) or end stage renal disease (ESRD). Over time, his kidney disease has gotten worse causing his kidneys not to work well enough to keep him alive. This is what he is facing now, and his treatment options are limited to dialysis treatments or kidney transplant.

Getting regular dialysis treatments, usually two to three times a week for four hours at a time, will help his kidneys do their job and keep him alive. A transplant would offer him more freedom and the ability to live a longer, healthier, more normal life but due to existing heart condition, he may not survive with the surgery. Regular kidney dialysis is the only way of prolonging his life and would also give him more time to do the fun things he enjoys most, like spending time with his family and friends.

Since November 2015, Manny has been undergoing life supporting dialysis two to three times a week which is for a life time. Though he is blessed in that he has health insurance (Philhealth) that covers the cost but only for 90 sessions. Hence, after that, the family will have to bear the costs which is about $3000 a month, plus costs for other tests (regular medications for maintenance, monitoring of blood tests etc.) The 90 sessions of dialysis will be completed by October 2018. As he is no longer able to work, it will be very difficult for his family to sustain access to the life-saving treatment that he needs.
