Help build the Hobbit House Hostel

There are a lot of stories out there waiting for you to live them.

Our story began when we three strangers decided to rent one house together and agreed to open our doors to couchsurfers in 2012 at a tiny apartment in Midtown, Cebu. The small but charming rabbit hole had low cave-like ceiling and a small wooden gate on the front yard akin to Hobbiton's Bag End. These peculiar earned the house it's name - The Hobbit House.

After 6 years, 500 couchsurfers and thousands of stories shared with people from all corners of the world, we are finally writing a new chapter. A chapter that began way back...

We remember laughing at the idea because there was an honest sarcasm in it. It was ridiculous because it was somehow true - we ran the house like a hostel as people sometimes walked in as soon people walked out. There were times we even picked random people from the streets and convenience stores and end up spending weeks together.

We did consider the idea a few times but end up concluding that it was way too serious and ambitious for a group of people who just wanted to host and be merry.

There were times when we wish we didn't have to waste our lives in our 9 to 5 jobs and just host people all day, everyday. Follow our newfound friends wherever they went and never have to worry about the rent, or how to buy the next bottle of beer. Adulting gets harder these days and one day, a few close friends of ours floated the idea again and suggested that if we work on it together then maybe we could pull it off.

So yeah, why not take our chances!

One random evening, Verge - a good friend of the house and a couchsurfing host himself, called me and challenged us to open the hostel this year or stop trying. So we broke the bank gathered what initially thought was enough but realised that we are not actually at goal. Waiting did seem like a better idea but we also knew that we have waited far too long now. We could wait but we we're afraid that time might no longer rally back on our side eventually lose the chance to circle back to the dream.

We have shared liters after liters of beer and rum, gathered plenty of times around tables of home cooked dinners, exchanged travel stories and made even more as we went on trips together. Our stories became legendary because we all have shared them together - so it's only right that we continue our story with a way we know best, doing it together.

We are inviting you to join us as we take Our story further.

There is no better time than now and the best time is soon. I have decided to start a campaign as some of you suggested that we do. We are asking for you to help us jumpstart the dream. A little push so we could make a build a bigger door to welcome the world.
