I have purchased 12 hectares of land in my home village in Sumatra. I have cleared the land already have built 3 fish farms, a wooden home, and have a generator for electricity. I am working with the local village people to create an eco/edu-tourism facility where local students will come to our campus for 2 weeks of intensive English study through hands-on learning experiences. Living and learning in beautiful nature while practicing English is the goal for this school. It is located on approximately 12 hectares with a durian and rubber plantation, 3 fish farms, and one wooden house (where volunteers sleep). Donations will help with the construction of 10 sleeping huts (dormitory), kitchen, musholla (praying room), shared bathroom, and a community room. They will also help cultivate a vegetable garden and plant trees surrounding the property which will feed the wild animals and keep them away from our garden.
I want to build this school for 2 reasons: to provide Indonesian students the opportunity for greater access to employment in the global community and to prevent deforestation in Sumatra. Large companies are destroying the rain forest to create palm oil plantations, which is harmful to the environment. This school will protect a small area of the rain forest while giving locals a greater opportunity for success.
